Actalent Technician in Beaverton, Oregon

Actalent in Portland is in search of a skilled Automotive Technician for one of our large programs, where we build, commission and test fleets of prototype and pre-production vehicles. This role specifically is focused on new technology (electric vehicles), and requires some software and electronics/electrical type skills, as it will focus heavily on those systems, as opposed to purely mechanical parts and systems.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally AS degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Electronics Technology, or similar, such as military training and working on a fleet of vehicles (not required if proper experience)

  • 3+ years of experience working on vehicles, with a strong preference for modern vehicles and/or heavy duty vehicles

  • Experience in an R&D environment is ideal, but service shop or other backgrounds can suffice

  • Must have some level of software/hardware experience - running, diagnosing, troubleshooting software systems on a vehicle, and specifically, flashing software on ECU's

Duties (include, but not limited to):

  • Review/Interpret current SW configurations on Test Fleet vehicle pool

  • Execute Vehicle SW flashing via End of line programming system

  • Execute Vehicle SW flashing via manual updates, including determining and work with engineering to support

  • Record all SW sets and parameters

  • Create & track issue tickets related to failed SW flashing

  • Communicate with engineering and fleet management teams actions and next steps

  • Coordinate Vehicle SW & parameter finalization and shakedown

  • Gather feedback and actions from shakedown, including faults, and drive updates to completion

  • Develop proficiency in SW/CAN tools for vehicle troubleshooting

  • Conduct pin to pin verification of the wiring harness of each vehicle

  • Perform ECU communication checks by ensuring all CAN buses are properly connected

  • First fuse allocation according to installation diagrams

  • Download software to the different ECUs and devices

  • Perform diagnostics utilizing proprietary software tools

  • Communicate with engineering and shop technician / management teams as required; Report possible issues and improvements needed in the vehicle

  • Develop proficiency in CAD DMU, SW/CAN tools for vehicle commissioning

Ideal candidates are automotive technicians with experience working on modern vehicles (blend of electrical and mechanical is fine), with great attitudes and willingness to work in a team environment in a clean R&D shop. Candidates must have some sort of software experience and ability to grow those skills as they go. We may also consider skilled technicians from other industries, as long as they have hobbies, interest, or experience working on or around vehicles (personal vehicle, automotive classes in school, racing enthusiast, military vehicle fleets, etc).
