Nike Lead Chemical Engineer in Beaverton, Oregon

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

As a Lead Chemical Engineer on the Nike Footwear Supply Chain Manufacturing Engineering team, you are part of a global team committed to delivering excellence to our product teams and to consumers every day. This role reports to the Director, Footwear Chemical & Tooling Engineering, both roles are based at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon USA. You will work closely with teams across the enterprise and around the world – Product Creation, NXT, Materials Supply Chain, Sourcing, Sustainability, Manufacturing Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, our Footwear vendors in Asia and with Chemical vendors.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Lead Chemical Engineer to join NIKE’s Footwear Supply Chain Manufacturing Engineering team.

The successful candidate will need to be a team player with strong technical expertise, proven solution-focused problem-solving skills and be able to collaborate and communicate effectively while managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience or training, and a minimum of 3 years directly relevant work experience

  • Footwear experience is preferred; experience in related industries, such as tires, polyurethane, plastics manufacturing, etc., may also be considered

  • Strong problem solving, project management skills, analytical skills with an ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to laypersons.

  • Proficient in standard MS Office programs, business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

You will partner and guide stakeholders to identify, evaluate and select the right chemicals, compounds and materials in the development and manufacture of NIKE’s innovative and iconic Footwear to enable highest performance and to achieve NIKE’s sustainability goals.

You will apply the methodology of design of experiment with solid data analysis capability to draw conclusions and provide corresponding resolution to solve development and manufacturing issues.

You will act as a functional expert in bottom component technology working with product creation and innovation teams during the development phase to identify and alleviate potential manufacturing issues, driving validation of cutting-edge technology to confirm manufacturing readiness.

You will leverage your influencing and project management skills to make progress and achieve goals on key strategic initiatives. You should be comfortable working in ambiguous circumstances, providing solution path to the problem while mitigating risk and identifying potential trade-offs.
