Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Perioperative Assistant provides assistance to the Prep and Hold, Operating Room, and Recovery Room personnel. This individual provides care contributing significantly to the achievement of patient and family outcomes. The Perioperative Assistant is responsible for completing clerical and technical support to aid in planning for patients comfort, and safety.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Provides direct care support and technical assistance to the nursing personnel to allow the nursing personnel to primarily focus on and achieve the patient’s care planning and coordination needs.

  2. Collaborates with anesthesiologist in regards to the set-up and assistance with nerve block placement.

  3. Assists with patient emergencies to ensure patients’ needs are met in a timely manner.

  4. Assists the patient and family to complete activities of daily living, anticipates the patient’s needs and modifies the approach based on the plan of care, patient coordination, patient age and development and patient request(s) to allow growth and development of the patient and family functions.

  5. Collaborates with direct patient care team members to ensure patient care services are adjusted and completed with the patient’s changing care needs.

  6. Effectively communicates meaningful pertinent information to appropriate individuals to assist in accurate care for the patient.

  7. Assists with various clerical duties to ensure accuracy of medical records and charts are assembled and disassembling in a timely manner.

  8. Assists nursing staff with order placement for various testing to ensure patients’ needs are met in a timely manner.

  9. Maintains, cleans, and disinfects designated area within department to provide a safe environment for patients and staff.

  10. Replenishes supplies within designated area to ensure adequate supplies are well stocked.

  11. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.

  12. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a medical assistant or nursing assistant program.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: None

Preferred/Optional: Experience working as a certified nursing assistant or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification awarded by the State of Wisconsin or equivalent experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
