JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Manager-Hospital coordinates, directs and manages the twenty-four hour delivery of optimal patient care within an assigned area of a Marshfield Clinic Health Systems hospital. This role is responsible for the recruitment and retention of the frontline patient care staff and for guiding and leading our nurses to provide the best patient care services in accordance with the organizational goals and initiatives. This role interactively works with physician and allied provider staff on their unit(s) with the goal of best patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Utilizes the nursing process to monitor and/or resolve situations related to the delivery of patient care services provided by the staff within the assigned area and assure ideal patient care.

  2. Develops systems to promote communication between staff, physicians and management.

  3. Facilitates the professional development of nursing staff to ensure the delivery of optimal patient care.

  4. Interviews, hires and designs orientation for new employees to develop and maintain an adequate and knowledgeable workforce.

  5. Manages staff schedules based on business needs to maintain efficiency and budgetary guidelines.

  6. Prepares budgets to estimate the costs of maintaining the needs of the designated area without negatively impacting patient care.

  7. Collaborates with other managers and leadership to meet the financial and clinical goals and objectives of the organization.

  8. Identifies opportunities to work collaboratively to establish services in strategic locations according to service line strategic plan.

  9. Collaborates with physicians and various departments within the organization to identify and implement practices which enhance the patient experience while maintaining a cost effective practice.

  10. Resolves conflict and promotes a positive work environment for patients and staff to maintain or increase the morale of the designated area and provide a positive patient experience.

  11. Defines and articulates staff expectations utilizing a model of empowerment and delegation with appropriate use of authority, responsibility and accountability to promote staff development.

  12. Performs clinical or technical job functions within their area of practice or licensure.

  13. Maintains current knowledge in clinical skills and management to ensure high quality patient care and provide coverage as a front line staff member as needed and as clinically competent.

  14. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.

  15. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Associate degree in nursing with contingency of successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in nursing within three years of hire.

*Nurse managers hired prior to April 1, 2022 may be grandfathered from meeting the new education requirements.

Preferred/Optional: Bachelor’s degree in nursing at time of hire.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: Three years’ experience in acute care or related healthcare experience and one year experience in leadership role.

Preferred: Three years’ leadership experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Current Applicable State Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
