About the Role:

The Grounds Maintenance Specialist reports directly to the Director of Campus Services, within the Facilities Management Department. The chosen applicant will spend most of their duty day working outside. Duties include general groundskeeping to include removing litter from the grounds, emptying trash receptacles, and keeping the grounds looking beautiful. The applicant may be required to operate various types of lawn and garden equipment to include weed eaters, leaf blowers, chainsaws, mowers, farm tractors and other associated equipment. They may be required to plant trees, bushes and flowers, and fertilize, mulch or irrigate vegetation. The successful applicant should have hands-on knowledge of general grounds maintenance work. This position is considered as essential, and employees will be required to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to emergency situations or natural disasters.

What You’ll Do – Position Duties

  • Conduct weeding and mulching landscape of flower beds, bushes and trees.

  • Remove litter from campus grounds, empty trash receptacles as required.

  • Operate various farm and garden equipment as required; mowing, trimming, and fertilizing grounds.

  • Repair and fill holes in asphalt parking lot and/or roadways as required.

  • Pressure wash sidewalks, concrete pads and buildings as required.

  • Plant trees, flowers, and shrubs, ensure lawns, landscapes, and gardens are watered.

  • Perform event setups as required; deliver/setup stage, chairs and other equipment as required.

  • Works with Campus Services staff as needed to assist with other departmental priorities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must have basic computer skills, to include using departmental email and the ability to use the internet to research parts and other job-related information.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

  • A minimum of 6-months of hands-on experience working as a laborer in grounds maintenance or related field.
