About This Role:
The Financial Aid Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting students and families by analyzing and evaluating their financial viability. This position provides expert advice on available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process. The specialist reviews and assesses financial aid applications, exercising professional judgment to make necessary adjustments and ensure accuracy.
Key responsibilities include responding to inquiries, resolving issues related to financial transactions, and acting as a liaison with other departments to address administrative and operational concerns. The specialist oversees data collection, management, and reporting, and participates in the development and implementation of data management systems and procedures.
Additionally, the Financial Aid Specialist coordinates and oversees specific administrative programs or service areas, serves as a subject matter expert, and maintains procedural and policy documentation. The role involves training and serving as a resource for other staff and students and may include supervising student employees or lower-level staff. The specialist also performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Analyzes and evaluates financial viability of students and families and provides advice and counsel regarding available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process.
Reviews and assesses eligibility of applications for financial aid; exercises professional judgment to determine whether adjustments should be made.
Reviews for accuracy and provides approval for completed processes.
Responds to inquiries and research and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
Oversees the collection, management, and reporting of data in accordance with the objectives of the position; participates in the development and implementation of data management systems and procedures, as appropriate.
Implements, coordinates, and oversees one or more specific administrative programs and/or service areas, as assigned.
Serves as subject matter expert, suggesting improvements where appropriate and maintaining procedural and policy documentation on an annual basis.
Trains and serves as an operational resource to other staff and /or students, as appropriate; may supervise student employees or lower-level staff.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, ensuring accurate processing of financial aid application and compliance with regulations.

Attention to detail is paramount to ensure accuracy.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirement is the ability to work in an office environment, which involves sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time along with occasionally stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching and reaching. You may occasionally need to lift, carry, push or pull moderate weights of up to 25 lbs.
Job Conditions:
Standard work hours are usually during the day. Monday-Friday, but there may be occasional requirements to work evenings, holidays or weekends due to peak times.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
2 years of experience working in a process-oriented environment with a high competency of computer skills.
Strong customer service skills that demonstrate a "student first’’ environment.
Must be able to obtain and retain full access to NSLDS (National Student Loan Database System.
