About the Position: Serves as Administrative Support Assistant in the Command and Support Section of a U.S. Army Transportation Battalion, located in the sunny state of Texas. Responsibilities Maintain logs and suspense records on incoming correspondence and follow up to ensure timely action. Manages the organization, upkeep, and proper disposal or records, documents, and files. Receive incoming correspondence addressed to the office; determine which should be brought to the supervisors’ attention or handled personally and established suspense controls. Receive office visitors and telephone calls determining the identity of the caller and general purpose of the call. Compile statistics and supporting analyses for use in the decision-making process. Monitor organization actions in responding to and complying with reporting requirements. Research, assemble and summarize a wide variety of material pertaining to the office functions. Obtain and present information and prepare a variety of recurring and special reports. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing administrative support such as preparing official correspondence, making travel arrangements, managing organizational schedules, utilizing office automation systems, and maintaining office files. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Clerical Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Technical Competence Writing Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
