TAX INTERN Overview: The individual filling this position will assist the other tax professionals of the Austin Powder Company with compliance reporting, accounting, audits & inquiries, and associated work for the client entities it serves; as well as assist with required administrative tasks. The work performed will be done under the supervision of the Tax Manager and the balance of the Tax Team. Description: Preparation of tax compliance returns to include State/Local/Provincial sales and use taxes, fuel tax refunds, and annual reports. Returns are filed on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly filing frequency. Assist with the preparation and submission of federal, state, & local income/franchise tax returns and supporting workpapers and files for specified Austin Powder affiliated entities. Gathering, processing, and adjusting financial information through the available personal computer software applications to effectively generate the tax returns, as well as supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source / support documentation. Compiling data for census reporting with the U.S Census Bureau. Tax & related informational filings. Effecting corporate tax payments. Responding to issues raised by management inquiry and/or internal or external audit examination. Various accounting matters for financial and tax purposes. Registering client entities with all appropriate federal, state and local authorities and maintenance of such registrations. Maintaining account analyses w/re: to General Ledger accounts related to business taxes on an actual and/or projected basis. Maintaining a comprehensive tax calendar for the Austin Powder entities. Maintaining & enhancing the Austin Powder Group's corporate tax files in SharePoint. Handling tax team mail, facsimiles, etc. Other duties as assigned by the Austin Powder Tax Team. Education and Experience Individual working on an undergraduate degree in accounting, having completed / completing at least two years of study. Minimum of one year of some form of work experience is preferred; preferably a prior internship in the accounting/tax field. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Strong desire to learn and to continue to develop skills. A basic "hands-on" working knowledge of personal computers and spreadsheet, database, & word processing software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). The ability to work effectively with people, i.e., a "team player". Individual must be a competent accounting major with the ability to complete assigned tasks with reasonable supervision. Further, the individual must: Be reliable and resourceful. Maintain an attention to detail. Have good organizational skills with an ability to keep multiple tasks moving. Work Environment Office setting with partial remote (partial remote work not guaranteed to continue). Potential travel time required.
