Job Summary
Looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a part time Bailiff at Municipal Court. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining order in the courtroom, ensuring the safety of all individuals present, and assisting with various administrative tasks. If you have strong communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a commitment to upholding justice, we want to hear from you!
Under the direction of the Court Administrator, the Bailiff provides security and maintains decorum in the courtroom and adjacent areas while court is in session.
The hours this position will work are as follows (hours can change periodically depending on docket numbers):
Monday 12am -5pm
Tuesday 8am - 5pm
Wednesday 8am - 1pm
Thursday 8am - 1pm
Duties
Opens the courtroom & clears everyone through metal detectors.
Makes announcements in court defining decorum & procedures.
Provides security for the courtroom and clerk processing area and maintains courtroom decorum per judge.
Takes defendants into custody as directed by the judge & transfers them to the jail.
Closes & secures courtroom and adjacent areas after court.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
Two years experience in Law Enforcement.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
TCLEOSE certified as a peace officer.
PREFERRED:
Five years experience in Law Enforcement.
Intermediate or Masters Peace Officer Certification.
Bilingual in English/Spanish
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of court operations, procedures, and arrest laws. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work flexible hours and to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
Overall Position Strength Demands
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
