SEMCO Energy - Operations Technician

Position Summary

Under direct supervision, the Operations Technician I supports the Construction Department with field duties relating to the installation, operation, and maintenance of gas service lines, pipelines, gas regulator stations, and meter and storage fields within the assigned geographic area.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepares, coordinates, and records work orders and cost estimates.

  • Inspect new and replacement service/ main installations.

  • Represent the company at various pre-construction meetings.

  • Stakes service and main locations.

  • Handles customer and contractor inquiries. Maintains appropriate documentation and reports on findings and actions.

  • Prepares and presents regular and special reports.

  • Assists Construction Supervisor and backfills as needed.

  • Adhere to all internal company control procedures and financial processes.

  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.

  • Maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.

What You Bring:

  • A high school diploma or successful completion of the GED is required, supplemented with college courses or vocational training in drafting, surveying, electrical, circuits wiring, or other related field. required.

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical and/or gas distribution is required.

  • Knowledge of basic mechanical & electrical principles is preferred.

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills and written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong customer service and customer experience orientation.

  • Working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company. Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.

  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and management.

  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of Company assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.

The hourly pay rate for this role is $32 per hour.
