The Patient Accounts Representative 2 works with internal and external customers, including team members, patients, and third parties to perform administrative tasks related to patient accounts for FMOL’s various hospitals and physician clinics. The Patient Accounts Representative 2, under the direction of supervisors, is responsible for processing billing and collection of receivables to ensure the prompt payment of hospital and/or professional charges. As directed, the Patient Accounts Representative 2 may perform the following core tasks within the enterprise patient accounting system: claims submission; researching and reviewing back end denials; determining appropriate action for submission of claims; outbound and inbound calls from insurance carriers and other third party payers, providers and/or patients; payment posting; and account adjustments and appeals processing.
Works independently on assigned tasks according to direction and performance standards.
Performs work queue tasks with accuracy and thoroughness resulting in resolution of claims processing errors, and eliminating the need for additional work.
Serves as a subject-matter expert on assigned work queue(s) and provides management insight, such as reporting of work queue trends or errors, and providing suggestions for process improvement.
Promptly answers inquiries from management, internal and external customers in an informative, kind and courteous manner.
Provides support and acts as a team lead over assigned functions.
Experience: 2 years of experience with medical billing, medical collections, coding, bookkeeping, accounting or revenue cycle OR Associate's Degree/Certification program/trade school certification plus 1 year experience with medical billing, medical collections, coding, bookkeeping, accounting or revenue cycle OR Bachelor's Degree in related field
Education: High School or equivalent Licensure: Must obtain CMS certification within three (3) months of employment Special Skills: Ability to understand EOBs, Strong knowledge of state, federal and/or private insurance carriers preferred. Excellent organizational skills. Critical thinking and problem solving skills Basic computer skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Pay attention to detail.
