MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1- has a minimum hire rate of $16.06/hourly

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NOTE:

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license.

To operate mobile equipment (such as that enumerated below) to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks.

General from a foreman or other higher level maintenance, supervisory, or administrative personnel.

May exercise functional over lower graded equipment operators or laboring personnel.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator--Light by the requirement to operate larger mobile equipment with more complicated operating and handling characteristics.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.

Examples of Work

The purpose of this position i s to operate a varie t y of heavy eq uipm ent for the purposes of ro ad/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is l ocated in Section 51 of the Department of Tran s portation and Development and reports directly to Highway Foreman 2. The in cu mb ent must be self-motivate d and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may ar i s e. The incumbent will participate in ap p ropr i ate DOTD struc tur ed trainin g program s and attend all continuing e du cation classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of r equired tasks.

The incumbent is required to posse s s t h e following s pecialized knowledge , ski ll s, and abi lities , as well as maintain the following licensing:

• Class A CDL license i s r equired

• Drug test i s required

• Will need working knowledge of PDA s , light computer work

• May require work involving nighttime operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours

• Lifting: a maximum of 50 pounds will be required , due to serv icing equipment , removing debris from roadway , and other routine maintenance work being performed. Manual liftin g of more than 50 pound s require s as s istance from others .

50% Operates the following heavy equ ipment , as needed: Asphalt Di s tributor (truck mounted), Lowboys , Backhoes, Milling machines ( < 90 HP), Front end l oade r s, Road planer , Bucket / ladder trucks, Road widener ( < 90 HP), Cranes / draglines (lifting capacity > 20 , 000, Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted) lb s but < 40 , 000 lbs, Striping machines, Dozers ( < 140 HP), Sweepers, Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump), Track ho es (excavators), Gradalls, Under bridge inspection uni ts (trai l er mounted) Hot mix pavers ( < 40 HP)

40% Performs bridge construction, bridge fender repair , and bridge repair Statewide which includ es working at extreme heights, in/or around water, po s sible hazardous materials, and night time operations or call out for emergenc i e s . P e rform s a w id e varie t y of tasks s u ch as cutt ing trees by po s sib l y using man lif ts, l oading and unloading materials suc h as creosote timbers , co nc rete baniers , and large culverts a n d/or equipme n t, flagging traffic , operating power and / or hand tools , etc. May perform incidental repair and con s truction ta s ks such as installation of guardrail , fencing, pipe, catch b a s i n s , and drainage s tructures. May train and/or assist in t raining lower level operators or labore r s.

5% Prior to equipment operations, conducts routine visual/physical safety inspection of equipment, reports problems to supervisor/appropriate personnel and/or takes necessary corrective action whenever possible. Perfom1s minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator's manual and manufacture’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely. Prepares any necessary paperwork (e.g., mileage, oi/gas usage, etc.) as directed.

5% May be required to perfom1 other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
