CARPENTER MASTER
About this position
The overall function of this position is to perform complex and detailed carpentry work related to buildings, structures, furniture, cabinets and other wooden items that require a high degree of precision as well as maintenance of associated equipment. This position is located in the District 61/Unit 701/East Baton Rouge Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the maintenance Foreman.
A valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeurs License may be required upon appointment.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in the carpentry trade.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the carpentry trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.

Function of Work:
To perform complex and detailed carpentry work related to buildings, structures, furniture, cabinets and other wooden items that require a high degree of precision and/or perform leadworker duties for a crew of less than three subordinates.
Level of Work:
Advanced.
Supervision Received:
Broad review from a Carpenter Foreman or other higher level maintenance personnel.
Supervision Exercised:
May serve as leadworker over assigned craftsmen as the need occurs.
Location of Work:
May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Carpenter by responsibility for overseeing the work of subordinate craftsmen and performing the most complex carpentry duties.
Differs from Carpenter Foreman by lack of direct supervisory responsibility over assigned trades personnel.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
70% Acts as a subject matter expert by performing work in the following areas; Builds high quality bookcases, tables, and cabinets, installs and repairs any and all damage to any plumbing, electrical, carpentry, catch basins, curb forms, bridge rails, deck forms, metal buildings, concrete, painting, ventilation, air conditioning, welding, windows, locks, desks, doors, mowing and general grounds maintenance, masonry, fence repair and all other building and facilities related maintenance activities. Attend required training.
10% Repairs and installs and variety of building machinery and equipment
10% Construction, maintenance, and repair of all water and sewage facilities within departmental right-of-way
5% Prepare accurate detailed cost estimates for man-hours and materials required to complete projects, dailies, vehicle logs, requisitions, sketches, and work schedules.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
