DAI is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager with a proven track record of success. As a leader in delivering technical assistance for EU-funded projects, DAI’s BD team is organized into four thematic areas: Green Growth, Economic Growth, Good Governance, and Social Development. The DAI EU unit focuses on serving the EU and EIB as primary clients while expanding its reach to other donors.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Barcelona, Spain. In your cover letter, please include your salary expectations (gross per annum in EUR) and highlight your track record in securing new business. Note that eligibility to work in Spain is required to apply for this role.

The Senior BD Manager will work under the supervision of the Senior BD Director, leading the identification of key inputs necessary for the successful preparation of technical proposals.

Business Development

Lead early engagement activities for a challenging pipeline of new business opportunities across all developing countries, in particular English and French speaking countries. Support theSenior BD Directorin diversifying donors and clients. Contribute essential inputs to the business development process from local and international partners, advisors, input providers, technical drafters, and key experts. Ensure all key inputs comply with DAI's vetting rules.

Portfolio Management and Planning

Supporting the identification of key inputs and agreeing commercial terms with them. Undertaking necessary field missions. Making sure the transfer of the key inputs to the unit in charge of the technical proposal preparation. Ensuring coordination with the DAI EU implementation unit and other DAI units.

Preparation of the Expressions of Interest

Ensure the preparation of Expressions of Interest (EOIs). Build and enhance the value of key inputs identified prior to EOI submission. Support the handover of information before shortlisting.

Bid Preparation

Contribute to the recruitment of Key Experts. Provide necessary information for budget preparation. Assist in reviewing relevant sections of the technical proposal.

Qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Relevant degree in economics, public sector administration, sustainable development, international cooperation, business administration or other topics related to economic growth and good governance.

  • More than 5 years as Business Development Management for the acquisition of donor funded projects with recent experience of at least 3 years working with the EU.

  • Exceptional time management skills - ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple stakeholder expectations, work independently and as part of a team within tight deadlines across various time zones.

  • Proven track record in winning new business.

  • Teamwork – support and work collaboratively within the business development team. Knowledge sharing is crucial within your team. Ideally to have the experience of managing at least a team of five people.

  • In-depth knowledge of EU procedures and/or other donors and project cycle management and Log frame management.

  • Excellent capacity to develop networks.

  • Strong organisational skills and capacity to learn and adapt quickly to new work processes.

  • Strong analytical skills and reasoning skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, and both written and verbal communication skills – keeping stakeholders informed.

  • Sensitivity in dealing with confidential information.

  • Self-motivated, goal oriented with a sense of urgency and the ability to support the opportunity to grow.

  • Proactive, assertive, action oriented, and action-oriented with strong intellectual agility and ability.

  • Fluent and French and/or Spanish.

  • Available to travel 25% per cent of the time.

  • Proficient MS Office user.
