Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like: databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. ​​Within Azure Data, our Graph team is dedicated to simplifying the process of extracting insights from the vast scale of interconnected business data prevalent in every organization. We are driven by our goal to enable all users to visualize, analyze, and enrich the intricate relationships within their business data. We are currently seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager who can define and implement our vision of scale-out graph indices, and graph algorithms systems, enabling large-scale graph analytics data analysts, business users, and data scientists across all organizations.

Responsibilities

• You will lead development of the core database index, query planning and execution, and language development stack.

• You will analyze tradeoffs and prioritize development, modularization, optimization, testing, repairability and observability of the core system components.

• You will guide the team to define appropriate observability metrics and analyse these metrics to improve the quality of decisions.

• You will lead efforts to collect, classify, and analyze complex data.

• You will guide the team to drive multiple group project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).

• As a Manager, you will identify skills needed and ensure that graph core database engineering team's skills remain current by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments.

Qualifications

Required /Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline.

• Solid technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, Java, or Python.

• Significant years of experience in development and operation of distributed systems as a Manager.​

• Significant time spent developing high-performing teams.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline.

• Preferred demonstrated experience in graph DBMS, high-performance compute, low-latency serving or algorithm development.

• Preferred demonstrated experience of graph database query languages, e.g. OpenCypher, Datalog.

• Knowledge Graph construction and operation experience will be an advantage.
