Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, our Graph team is dedicated to simplifying the process of extracting insights from the vast scale of interconnected business data prevalent in every organization. We are driven by our goal to enable all users to visualize, analyze, and enrich the intricate relationships within their business data. We are currently seeking a Principal Group Software Engineer who can define and implement our vision of scale-out graph indices, and graph algorithms systems, enabling large-scale graph analytics data analysts, business users, and data scientists across all organizations.

Responsibilities

  • You will lead the development of graph query languages, query planning and execution.

  • You will analyze tradeoffs and prioritize development, modularization, optimization, testing, repairability and observability of the core system components.

  • As a Principal Group Software Engineer, you will guide the team to drive multiple group project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).

  • You will identify skills needed and ensure graph core database engineering team's skills remain current by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline.

  • Extensive years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C++, Java, or Python or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with semantic data technologies, Knowledge Graphs modelling and construction.

  • Experience in graph query languages and graph-structured data model software development.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Preferred demonstrated experience in graph languages, including, but not limited to openCypher or Datalog.

  • Preferred demonstrated experience in implementing recursive or iterative graph query execution plans.
