Covenant Health OPERATING ROOM TECHNICIAN - Per Diem in Bangor, Maine

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of IntraOperative Services and the supervision of the OR Supervisor in conjunction with the Anesthesiologists, the Technician functions as a support person for the Operating Room including, but not limited to, supporting the Anesthesiologists, room turnover, assuring equipment is available for the surgical team, etc. The technician is tasked with assuring the Operating Room staff and Anesthesiologist have what they need to deliver safe, effective care for surgery and will perform various tasks for the Surgical team. This position requires "on call" responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

Education:

High-School diploma or GED required BLS w/in 3 mos CNA preferred Other skills required:

  • The technician's responsibilities include but not limited to: working with the OR Business Manager and Supply Chain Technician to assure that PAR levels of supplies and medications are maintained.

  • Cleaning of surgical suites, including the Anesthesia work area and any equipment (including but not limited to x-ray gowns, IV poles, Anesthesia workstations, carts, OR equipment, etc.) in the room, in between surgical cases and at the end of the day

  • Restocking of Anesthesia workstations and carts

  • Assisting with patient positioning, including holding patients for spinal and/or epidural anesthesia and assisting the operative team in positioning the patient for surgery

  • Assisting Anesthesia as needed with the placement of EKG cables and BP cuffs, setting up for block procedures in the pre-op holding area.

  • Entering patient demographics into the computer in preparation for the Anesthesia team.

  • Assisting the OR team with room set up to include, but not limited to, retrieving equipment (per the preference card) needed for an OR case from storage and bringing to the OR suite, bringing case carts to room (helping OR team set up for next case), placing equipment and supplies in the appropriate places in the OR suites, removing any unwanted equipment from the OR suite and delivering to the appropriate storage room.

  • Patient transportation to and from the patient floors, ED, pre-op holding, etc.

  • Transportation of specimens to the lab and retrieving medications from the Pharmacy

  • Sorting and placing laundry in the appropriate places;

  • Monitoring temperature of blanket/fluid warmer and refrigerator;

  • Able to assist OR team in patient transfers and positioning and holding of patient for preps

  • Maintains & performs weekly tests on the Dornoch system and assists in inservicing new staff on how to use the system

  • General housekeeping duties and any other duties as requested by the charge nurse, OR Supervisor and/or Director of IntraOperative Services.
