The Opportunity

The Developer Extension (DevEx) team at Nutanix solves the most technical problems faced by customers. Nutanix Files Product is software-defined storage solution that offers simple, secure and scalable solutions to store and manage the unstructured data. You will be working on Nutanix Files product by providing relief to customers facing problems(Oncalls).

The MTS-2 Engineer is expected to take ownership of Oncall, provide the Root cause analysis of problems and solve them in a timely manner. Cross collaboration with Dev/Qa teams is essential to make a product better by giving feedback from Oncalls. Knowledge in automation using Python is needed and also knowledge on distributed systems and File systems like SMB,NFS will be an added advantage.

Engineering / R&D at Nutanix

Devex team is a developer extension team that takes care of complex issues(OnCall) faced by customers. The Devex team has subject matter experts across many components of Nutanix Cloud. The Devex team owns the Customer Oncalls and provides relief to customers by providing solutions/workarounds so that Customer is unblocked and runs his business.

The Devex team collaborates with Dev/QA teams to make the product better, we also built automation tools to reduce triage time for the engineers.

Your Role

As a MTS engineer, you will be working on Nutanix Files Product by helping us in debugging/providing relief to Customer Oncalls in a timely manner. Collaborate within a team and also cross functional teams to solve the problems.

Key Responsibilities:-

• Work as a part of an extended engineering team responsible for technical analysis and resolution of complex customer issues

• Develop a deep understanding of complex distributed systems, and debug customer production clusters in real time. Be able to feed learnings back into the product.

• Debug, Solve the customer problems(Oncall) for Nutanix Files Product.

• Own the Oncall, provide the root cause analysis for the Oncall and provide relief to the customer by solving it or by giving a workaround for the problem.

• Collaborate with cross functional teams, propagate the feedback from Oncalls experience in making products better.

• Suggest any Automation ideas, implement them and make debugging easier.

What You Will Bring

• Proficient in understanding the problem, Debugging and writing quality production code.

• 2+ years of experience in Debugging on Linux systems, understanding of Linux monitoring tools like vmstat, iostat, sar etc.

• Strong Analytical skills and Problem solving skills with a keen eye for detail to detail are essential.

• Ownership of the Oncall, own the technical issues and drive them till solution.

• Nice to have understanding of File systems like NFS,SMB.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, or related field.

• 2 years of experience in Linux, Python/C/C++ and debugging tools.

About the Team

Nutanix Files DevEx Team has 3 members across Bangalore, Amsterdam, USA. we work together in

• solving complex oncalls, providing relief to customers, propose the KB’s for known problems and drive the oncalls to closure.

• Automation to detect known issues or reduce triage time.

• cross collaboration with Dev/QA teams, propagate the feedback from oncalls to product.

• OnCall handover to other geolocation incase of high priority problem.

Meet Venkata Ramarao Edara - Hiring Manager

Venkat joined Nutanix in Feb 2022 with the promise to manage the DevEx team. Venkat has around 18 years of experience in building the teams across the Software Development, SRE and Devex teams. Venkat has managed the Nutanix HCM (Hybrid cloud management) team for 1 year and is now leading the Nutanix Files and also development of Panacea from Aug 2023. Venkat has experience in Distributed systems/micro services/observability areas.
