Roles & Responsibilities:
Lead technical BESS projects and assist in project evaluation and development.
Evaluate and select battery storage technologies suitable for onshore renewable projects, ensuring technologies are up to date with latest developments and lead efforts to innovate and maximise value through technology deployment. This includes appropriate assurance and supporting project approval processes.
Solution Proposals: Recommend the best project solutions. Perform Due Diligences to assess equipment suppliers and solutions suitability for BESS equipment and supervise third-party consultants in the field.
Collaborate with engineering and the Technical Centre of Excellence to design and optimize electrical systems for onshore renewable projects. Partner with in-country project teams to provide specialist support and training to across the project life cycle to ensure best practices are embedded at the appropriate stage.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations in the design and implementation of electrical components.
Conduct research to identify and propose innovative solutions for improving electrical performance and energy yield. Perform and update Battery Energy Storage Systems technology roadmaps.
Provide battery storage technology expertise and direction in the development and implementation of appropriate technical policies, procedures, and tools to support the delivery and operation of projects. This includes developing testing protocols to validate their performance and reliability.
Work closely with other technology and integration teams to ensure seamless connection and synchronization of onshore renewable projects with the electrical grid.
Lead CAPEX / OPEX estimating from a battery storage technology perspective.
Support project procurement activities by defining battery storage systems dimensioning, specification and ensuring proper technology risks and opportunities are appropriately considered in supplier selection.
Support the mitigation of storage technology risks for the portfolio and support project specific risk identification and mitigation as required.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry policies, standards, regulations, and best practices.
Capture, communicate, and apply lessons learned and best practices to ensure value is maximized on individual projects.
Procedure development: Create and implement growth-oriented procedures. Ensure creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation, dimensioning instructions, calculation methodologies, manuals, and training materials for BESS systems, facilitating knowledge transfer and skill development within the organization. Incorporate best tools and methodologies for components specification, dimensioning and planning.
Eventual Site Inspections: Visit and inspect project sites to ensure best practices are being deployed.
Demonstrate beliefs which promote a safe and environmentally responsible work culture and ensure HSSE risks are considered.
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
Possess a robust background (+8 years of experience) in energy storage strategy and project management.
A strong belief in safety and environmental responsibility with the ability to develop a strong safety culture in teams and embed safety in technical activity.
A good understanding of the key value drivers of projects that relate to BESS systems selection in onshore renewable project and deployment. Ability to drive competitiveness without a detrimental impact on safety or quality.
Strong project management expertise and knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
Strong leadership skills with ability to bring people together.
A minimum of a technical bachelor's degree, masters preferred. Additional engineering, renewables, electrical or projects management qualifications a plus.
Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset.
