SC Department of Public Safety Upward Bound - Camp Innovation Residential Counselor in Bamberg County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities We are seeking to fill six (6) vacancies for Upward Bound - Camp Innovation Residential Counselors (RC) Key duties include: * Community development-RCs create programs and activities designed to meet the needs of residents on the floor. As a community developer, RCs also host floor or building meetings, as well as have meaningful interactions with community residents and encourage community involvement. * Resource and education-As a peer helper, RCs connect residents to other campus opportunities to promote a positive Campus Innovation experience. * Facility management- RCs work with other hall staff and peer mentors to ensure that there are no facility issues on their floor. RCs are required to complete room inventory checks and safety checks on a regular basis. * Policy enforcement/safety- RCs are attentive to resident safety and hall security, as well as ensure residents follow Upward Bound and College housing policies to maintain a respectful environment. RCs educate residents on their actions and decisions while informing them about how their actions impact an entire community. * Emergency response- RCs provide the primary response to emergencies within their hall. While each RCs will have designated duty nights, staff are expected to assist whenever they are in the building. * Administrative tasks- RCs are required to complete weekly reports and programmatic paperwork, administer surveys and assist with check-ins and check-outs of residents. Minimum and Additional Requirements High school diploma or GED. Additional Comments Collaboration * Communicate clearly with students, supervisor, and campus partners through written, verbal, and nonverbal interactions * Know and utilize available resources, including Residential Life and Housing staff, campus partners, and community resources * Serve as a knowledgeable University and community resource and refer residents as appropriate * Contribute to the success of the department by addressing individual and group needs * Collaborate with peers through duty shifts, building wide programs, and other team initiatives Resident Centered* * Establish oneself as a leader among peers by developing and maintaining relationships with individual residents * Empower residents to build relationships with students, faculty, and staff throughout the campus community * Create and maintain quality bulletin boards to educate and inform the community * Address community needs through the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual interactions and a variety of programmatic initiatives (social, educational, cultural, and recreational) * Respond to and mitigate conflict and crisis situations learning * Prepare for and actively engage in in-person and online training sessions, area meetings, staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, and other developmental activities * Promote academic success outside of the classroom * Understand, educate, and reinforce the Student Code of Conduct and Residential Life and Housing policies, and follow up with residents after incidents have occurred * Think critically about how to effectively handle a variety of situations * Support residents' development of skills related to civility, interpersonal dialogue, and responsible behaviors through addressing policy violations, mediating roommate conflicts, and promoting self-advocacy. *Salary: $3,500.00 Annually Location: Bamberg County, SC Job Type: Temporary Grant - Full-Time Job Number: 114164 Closing: Continuous Class Code: UZ01 Position Number: 000000 Normal Work Schedule: Other Pay Band: Unclassified Opening Date: 05/25/2021 EEO Statement: Equal Opportunity Employer Agency Specific Application Procedures: Denmark Technical College Agency Specific Instructions for Applicants: Persons interested in this opportunity should apply online at www.careers.sc.gov or www.denmarktech.edu.
