The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Education (SOE) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Counseling Program housed in the department of Counseling and Educational Studies, beginning July 2025.?The current position is designated to work across the clinical mental health and school counseling track in the Master's degree. Offering two tracks in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling, the SOE ranks 8th among the nation's best graduate education programs according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report. Johns Hopkins is also a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), which is composed of the top research institutions in the U.S.
The Counselor Education program is a robust academic unit with faculty research lines encompassing several scholarly domains such as: 1) closing educational and opportunity gaps for K-12 students to produce equitable academic and social/emotional outcomes; 2) exploring biological basis of behavior and neuroscience; 3) investigating the mental health needs of international and racial minority students; and 4) examining contextual dimensions of race and ethnicity through broaching strategies. A core tenet throughout faculty research and curriculum is an emphasis on societal needs and working within community and school settings utilizing culturally-responsive, scientific-based approaches. With proximity to the nation's capital, the program's objective is to spearhead innovative research that can guide and influence policies that impact multiple populations behaviorally, mentally, emotionally, and physically. The program offers one CACREP-accredited master's degrees (M.S.) with two concentrations: (a) Clinical Mental Health Counseling and (b) School Counseling. Expectations of the position:
Conducting original research to assemble a record of scholarly publications in line with a tenure-track/tenured appointment at a major research university
The development of independent, externally-funded research
Teach courses in both school and clinical mental health
Supervise, advise, and mentor graduate students
Participate in professional service at the school, university, state, regional, and national levels
Maintain active membership and involvement with an appropriate counseling professional organization (i.e., ACA, MCA, ACES, ASCA, etc.)
Required General Qualifications:
A doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program or have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013
Completion of all doctoral requirements prior to employment
Outstanding record of scholarship and research productivity consistent with rank
Demonstrated excellence in teaching to diverse learners
Demonstrated work as a collegial, collaborative team member
Eligibility as a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) or school counseling certification in Maryland
Knowledge of the CACREP standards and process
Required Qualifications/Experience by Rank:
Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) Position:
Demonstrates potential to develop a robust research agenda and active participation in research activities, including scholarship and professional presentations related to counselor education
Demonstrates potential to publish in top-tier/flagship journals
Demonstrates ability to develop quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method research methods
Demonstrates ability (or potential) to secure external funding
Evidence of teaching effectiveness at either the undergraduate or graduate level
Active involvement in state, regional, and/or national professional organizations
Associate Professor (Tenure-Track) Position:
Documented history of scholarly activity involving a consistent research line related to counselor education
A distinguished record of research and scholarship in top-tier/flagship journals
Evidence of sustained research development and dissemination of findings, such as presentations at national/international conferences (ACA, ACES)
History of expertise in quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, or conceptual methods resulting in peer-reviewed publications
Experience in securing external funding to support research endeavors
Active involvement in state, regional, and/or national professional organizations
Leadership experience in professional counseling organizations (ACA, AMCD, ACES, AHC, etc.)
Documented teaching effectiveness at the graduate level
Salary: Assistant Professor: $99,692 - $145,634, Associate Professor: $123,002 - $179,905

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
