Robert Half Staff Accountant in Baltimore, Maryland

Description

We are offering an opportunity to be part of our team based in BALTIMORE, Maryland. We are in search of a Staff Accountant who will apply accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports, and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. This role offers a short-term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze financial information and prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements.

• Apply accounting principles and procedures to ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

• Perform detailed reconciliations and provide technical accounting support for fiscal period closings.

• Establish an effective contract and grant management system to monitor compliance with fiscal and reporting requirements.

• Design and produce regular analytics for internal reporting and complex year-end audit work papers.

• Prepare and examine expenditure reports, financial statements, and reports of historical trends for program managers, management, and state agencies.

• Perform grant-related post-award functions including grant closeout, budget, and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, and labor distribution changes.

• Approve/deny invoices, expense reimbursements

• Assist in monthly and statutory year-end closing and, annual audit

• Reconcile the Ledger system with the ERP system.

• Maintain files of disbursement and receipts.

Requirements

• Candidate must possess proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Excel Formulas

• Experience in Bank Reconciliations, Cash Reconciliations, and Ledger Reconciliations is essential

• Familiarity with Statement Reconciliations

• Prior experience with Year End Closings is necessary

• Understanding of General Journal and General Ledger operations is a must

• Ability to Post Journal Entries, including Monthly Journal Entries, Month-end Journal Entries, Ledger Journal Entries is required

• Proficiency in Journal Entry Preparation, Journal Entry, and Adjusting Journal Entries is expected

• A degree in a relevant field such as accounting, finance, or business administration is preferred

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Attention to detail and accuracy in all work

• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

• Knowledge of higher education industry accounting practices is a plus.
