PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Develop and implement strategic partnerships with community leaders, government and elected officials and non- profit organizations supporting communities in the BGE service territory. Assist the External Affairs Managers, in building/strengthening relationships with legislators and community leaders through community engagement initiatives.

Note: Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24x7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies

Support BGE operations through outreach and engagement with key stakeholders such as Community Organizations, not for profit organizations, and community outreach staff under local elected officials.

Support and manage key Community Engagement team programming such as planning and organizing meetings, leading initiatives, coordinating and managing programming and events.

Develop and implement proactive/reactive community outreach programs that address the needs of diverse constituents and build strategic relationships and a positive image for BGE.

(Externally) Represent the company and take a leadership role in a broad range of “grassroots” community partnerships and initiatives; (internally) work with organizations across the company to promote community initiatives and build a positive image for the company.

JOB SCOPE

  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of community, political and socioeconomic environment in which the company operates.

  • Build relationships with External Affairs Managers and help them achieve their territory-specific objectives.

  • Incent employees from all business units to participate in volunteer initiatives through improved communications and recognition awards.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related discipline and 5-8 years related experience in private sector or nonprofit community affairs, public relations or related area, OR in lieu of Bachelor's degree, 9-12 years of relevant experience.

  • Skill requirements: written and verbal communications, strategic planning, project development and management, relationship development, event marketing, computer proficiency.

  • Established network of community relationships and familiarity with community issues and leaders in the BGE service territory.

  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust and work effectively with internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and also to work in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with PC applications to include Word, Excel, Power Point and desktop publishing.

  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
