The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. The SEED School educates and boards 400 students in grades six through twelve. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education.
The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a thoughtfully balanced learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a seven-year educational program that offers small class sizes, high quality teaching and learning experiences, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and arts. SUMMARY
Under the leadership of the Director of Academics, the Special Education Coordinator is to work with and co-teach middle and/or high school students to ensure their success in a college preparatory program.
The Special Education Coordinator provides effective instruction and support in curricular areas for which employed; utilizes various instructional resources and technologies; demonstrates knowledge of the teaching/learning process; develops and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of a diverse student population; maintains contact and communication with parents and Student Life staff; and works effectively with administrators, colleagues, and all members of the school community.
He/She is also responsible for the coordination of special education programs and related services within his/her respective assignment; assists in the supervision of support staff; and to do other related functions as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinator Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Attend most IEP meetings for the school
Engage all new staff members in effective induction procedures and facilitate continued professional development through ongoing training opportunities in the special education department
Maintain communication with other special education directors in the state to ensure continuity of services
Review federal and state legislation regulations related to special education and identify and share the impact of changes on the school
Assess and evaluate a team of special education teachers and instructional associates.
Design instructional and monitoring tools for students with disabilities
Support the development and implementation of a co-teaching model
Collaborate with teachers and other instructional leaders to design and implement high - quality professional learning experiences
Create and maintain a data warehouse for students with disabilities
Serve as a member of the instructional leadership team
