University of Maryland, Baltimore Senior Bioinformatics Analyst in Baltimore, Maryland

TheInstitute for Genome Sciences (IGS)is currently recruiting for a/Senior Bioinformatics Analyst/. Comprised of an inter-disciplinary, multi-department team of investigators, IGS employs multiple omics and bioinformatics approaches to understand function in health and disease, to study molecular and cellular networks in a variety of model systems, and to generate data and bioinformatics resources of value to the international scientific community. The Senior Bioinformatics Analyst will lead scientific analysis of data generated by multiple research projects using a variety of software applications. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to, project coordination, data analysis, data harmonization, results presentation, manuscript writing, script writing, and outreach. Essential Functions: * Organize omics data with other relevant data types into databases, displays, or graphic presentations for publication, web presentation, or presentations at scientific meetings. * Write scripts in R or Python to achieve project tasks. * Format data/metadata for use by other analysts or scientists. * Perform data mining and synthesis activities using various internal resources, public databases, and publications. * Submit primary data to public repositories (e.g., GenBank, GEO). * Participate and contribute to multiple ongoing projects as a member of large-scale, multi-member project teams. * Develop and deliver content in, as well as lead, community outreach and training activities. * Participate in group/project meetings to present and discuss progress and results. * Provide technical leadership to multiple ongoing projects simultaneously and to large-scale, multi-member project teams. * Perform other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Life Sciences (e.g., Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Psychology, Biochemistry, Microbiology), Computer Science, or Information Systems. Experience:Six (6) years of genomic research experience with at least five (5) years of experience of omics-based data analysis experience within UNIX/Linux-based operating systems. Preferred Experience:Experience scripting with Python and/or R. Experience teaching in settings such as workshops and webinars. Other:Master’s degree in a related field is preferred and may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
