The Infectious Diseases division, Lamichhane Laboratory, is seeking a highly motivated individual with experimental lab experience to work as a Research Specialist . The Research Specialist will conduct research studies related to the study of genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and antibacterial resistance in bacteria and make intellectual contributions to the scientific research of the lab. This position involves learning new knowledge in several fields and acquiring fundamental skills in biomedical laboratory research. An individual with an interest in intellectual and technical growth will benefit from this position. Individuals in this position have eventually applied and been admitted to graduate or medical degree programs around the country.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Undertaking established and new protocols for microbiology, molecular biology, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, and mouse model of bacterial diseases.

• Undertaking independent research projects provided by the Principal Investigator.

• Identifying and selecting the best options for scientific strategies and research development based on literature reviews and collaboration with colleagues.

• Identifying challenges in studies and proposing and implementing plan for solutions.

• Working effectively and productively with members of lab.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to work in a group and independently.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Computational Biology, Chemistry or related field.

• One year laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.

• Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with basic computer programs, e.g. Word, Excel.
