Johns Hopkins University Research Program Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and the Research Program Manager, we are seeking a Research Program Coordinator to work independently to complete clinical research procedures for the MESA Study at Johns Hopkins University. The MESA Study is a multi-center longitudinal observational study within the Division of Cardiology. The Research Program Coordinator will be working mostly in a clinical research setting directly with research participants, some of whom are elderly, while adhering to the study protocol. The Research Coordinator will perform clinical research procedures on human subjects with little to no direct supervision.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit participants over the telephone to participate in MESA Mind and MESA amyloid study visits.

  • Responsible for clinic research procedures on study participants, including informed consent, questionnaires, blood pressure, urine collection and phlebotomy (optional), neurological examination, comprehensive cognitive testing, placement of continuous glucose monitor, amongst other procedures, with little supervision.

  • Coordinate/schedule research exam visits with participants, research staff, and transportation services.

  • Keep very accurate records of recruitment status of all individuals contacted.

  • Complete orders in EPIC for research studies, including CAT scans, nuclear medicine and MRI scans.

  • Send out appointment reminders to study participants and prepare paperwork for the study visit.

  • Prepare materials needed for exam visit.

  • Compile and send exam results to participants.

  • General offices duties including copying, filing, answering phones, taking messages

  • Enter data into a computerized database and on paper documents.

  • Escort participants to different appointments within the hospital.

  • Ability to work and travel between the East Baltimore Campus (Johns Hopkins Hospital) and the Field Center Office in Fells Point.

  • Maintain knowledge of the study protocol and reporting requirements

  • May be asked to perform home sleep studies (polysomnography) occasionally in the early evenings.

  • Complete all training and certification requirements arranged by the coordinating center for required research procedures in a timely manner.

  • Transmission of study results to reading centers.

  • Coordinate and conduct quality assurance procedures on a regular basis.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to assist elderly research participants to get on and off exam tables.

  • Walk long distances within the hospital, possibly a few times a week.

  • Stand for long periods of time when escorting participant.

  • Lift and push/pull 25 pounds.

  • Able to transport a cart with medical equipment on it.

  • Sit at desk for long periods of time a few days a week.

  • Type on a computer for long periods of time a few days a week.

  • Able to walk up a flight of stairs.

  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

  • Communication skills using the spoken word.

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience in clinical or medical research setting preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, detail orientated, self-motivated.

  • Ability to be flexible in work conditions, hours and work well in team setting.

  • Proficiency in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software- ability to use a laptop and personal computer.

  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills- interviewing techniques required.

  • Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 -$30.00 HRLY ($48,880 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
