Johns Hopkins University Research Program Assistant II in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Program Assistant II . The individual for this position will be responsible for assisting in clinical research studies for the Johns Hopkins Center for Restless Legs Syndrome. The responsibilities may involve, but are not limited to, identifying appropriate patients, consenting study participants, data collection and entry, collecting blood samples, organizing regulatory paperwork, assisting with collecting and analyzing MRI data and manuscript preparation.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with the principal investigators and other study team members to develop, amend, and execute study protocols.

  • Monitor, schedule, and execute participants’ study visits and monitor the study budget.

  • Maintain all participant binders, study binders, and documentation for the study as well as assist the principal investigators in preparing for audits, advertising for the studies, implementing new recruitment strategies.

Grant & IRB Requirements:

  • Works with the principal investigator to compose protocol for IRB review. Drafts IRB initial submissions, protocol changes, and annual renewals for principal investigator’s review and signature. This will require specific IRB-related data collection over the duration of the protocol.

  • For NIH grants, will maintain specific human subject information and draft annual progress report for PI review and signature. May participate in closing out the Grant at the end of the final year.

Tissue and Bodily Fluid:

  • Will be trained and will need to obtain certification in safe handling and management of tissues and body fluid.

  • Will be responsible for collecting, processing, and storage of blood samples.

  • They will also be responsible for collecting and storage of brain tissues. They will be responsible for distribution of the blood and brain samples to the Core lab facilities for processing and then subsequent collection and management of the data.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Requires High School Diploma/GED, and a minimum of two years of related experience. Additional education may substitute for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: _ 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job._

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some related clinical research and data management experiences would be plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Microsoft Word and Excel experience required.

  • Some experience with statistical analysis of various types of data sets using standard statistical software (e.g., SPSS) is desired.

  • The candidate must have professional attitude, excellent organization and communication skills.

  • Must be able to independently complete tasks, be detail-oriented and able to multi-task.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.0/hr (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
