Johns Hopkins University Research Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

Under the direction of the Principal Investigators, Research Program Managers, and Program Administrators, the Research Assistant will assist in the coordination and execution of activities that support the research goals and research studies of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity (JHCHE) as well as the programmatic goals of Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute (UHI).

The JHCHE works to promote equity in health for at-risk populations through advancing scientific knowledge, promoting sustainable changes in practice and policy, partnering with communities, raising public awareness of health inequities, and training scholars. The incumbent will work with adult community members, stakeholders, faculty, staff, and students from the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. They will assist the JHCHE Program Managers and leadership with project coordination, public facing presentations, administrative support and other assigned duties.

The Johns Hopkins UHI works across the University to advance health and health equity in Baltimore via a wide range of programs, events, and educational and funding opportunities designed to facilitate collaborations, mobilize resources, and advance dialogue and community representation. The incumbent will assist the UHI Program Administrators and leadership in furthering the mission and work of the UHI through comprehensive program planning and implementation.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of presentations, publications, toolkits, flyers, letters and other materials for dissemination of research and program materials.

  • Assists in the development of tables and figures for reports and manuscripts.

  • Performs literature reviews.

  • Assists in the coordination and participates in research and team meetings, including the preparation of agendas and taking of detailed meeting minutes.

  • Assists in the planning and coordination of on- and off-campus special events, including lectures, workshops, seminars, and meetings.

  • Assists with communication and dissemination efforts, including website and newsletter maintenance and development.

  • Assists in the maintenance of project databases.

  • Assists with community engagement activities.

  • Assists program manager in preparing required funder reports.

  • Ensures security, quality, and confidentiality of data by following policies and procedures.

  • Completes data entry.

  • Completes all training in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Additional administrative tasks may include,

  • Assists as necessary regarding typing, filing, faxing, mass mailings, chart review.

  • Assists in preparing recruitment and tracking update reports.

  • Assists in preparing monthly quality control and data management reports.

  • Reliable transportation required, possibility of hybrid work environment.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks. Must have the ability to work well and communicate effectively with others, and execute, consolidate and organize ideas.

  • Must have strong organizational skills, initiative, leadership skills, attention to detail, be able to take direction, and work independently and as part of a team (teams of researchers and with diverse subject populations in particular).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of PC operations and software applications such as MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Access required.

  • Ability to learn new database and software applications is required.

  • Ability to follow multiple, detailed directions of various protocols.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and diverse patient populations highly desired. Must have excellent time management skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.

  • Ability to see within normal parameters.

  • Ability to hear within normal range.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research or project implementation experience.

  • Experience working in clinical settings and/or with providers and clinical staff.

  • Experience in database operations and/or experience in coordination of medical or laboratory research.

  • Some related experience or familiarity with grant review processes.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
