The University of Maryland, Office of Academic Affairs, has an opportunity for a full-time Psychologist to join the Student Counseling Center.The selected candidates will work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary Student Counseling Center team. The Psychologist provides initial clinical assessment, crisis intervention, consultation, and brief psychotherapy to a diverse population of primarily graduate and professional school students. Designs and implements psychoeducational programs and outreach activities for the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, campus organizations, related academic departments, and Student Affairs units. *Benefits Information* UMB offers acomprehensive benefits packagethat prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development. Exempt regular staff receive a generous leave package that includes over 4 weeks of vacation accrued each year, paid holidays, unlimited accrual of sick time, and comprehensive health insurance; professional learning and development programs; tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland school; and flexible work schedules and teleworking options (if applicable per job). *Essential Functions* * Provides initial clinical consultation, clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy to a diverse population of primarily graduate and professional school students. * Provides group counseling, both psychoeducational and process-oriented. * Provides peer consultation, as well as consultation to University faculty and staff regarding concerns about students and the campus environment. * Designs and implements psychoeducational programs and outreach activities for the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, campus organizations, related academic departments, and Student Affairs units. * Develops/participates in working relationships with other departments that share an interest in student wellness and personal development. * Participates in the shared governance of the University by serving on campus committees, task forces, and working groups. * Completes and maintains timely and accurate records in compliance with state laws and professional ethics codes. * Performs additional professional services based on individual skills and interests consistent with the center’s need. * Engages in professional development activities to maintain licensure/certification and qualify to supervise doctoral/masters level trainees. * Provides supervision to graduate students in the Training program. * Performs other potential duties as assigned by the Student Counseling Center’s Executive Director. Education: Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology (PhD) or a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited program; and successful completion of an APA accredited internship. Licensure: *Licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland or eligibility for licensure in the state of Maryland. *Experience: Minimum of one (1) year related experience. Other:Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements. /Preferred Qualifications/ * Supervisory experience in a University Counseling Center. * Experience leading, providing, and coordinating supervision of clinical doctoral or masters-level externs. * Experience creating and implementing an orientation process for extern trainees in collaboration with senior clinical staff. * Experience developing and revising a training policy manual in accordance with a university counseling center’s policies and priorities. * Experience recruiting trainees and maintaining relationships with local training programs. * Experience providing direct and indirect supervision to staff members who are supervising trainees as needed, related to issues of supervision and training. Experience developing and overseeing the seminars for trainees as well as staff related to supervision, training and accreditation needs. * Mental health crisis intervention experience. * Experience and/or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: DBT, victims of sexual misconduct and/or sexual harassment; LGBTQ students; eating/body image issues; substance abuse. * Experience in and commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion clinical practices and center procedures and policies. * Experience in the use of short-term (4- 6 session), non-weekly therapy model(s). *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities* * Knowledge of best practices in the field as well as relevant federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies utilizing proper application of diagnostic tools. * Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population using various interviewing techniques and consultative approaches. * Ability to continuously seek improvements in order to support the goals and strategic mission of the program. * Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for resolving problems and facilitating decision-making processes. * Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness. Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients and information obtained during care/treatment. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and state regulations. * Demonstrated leadership ability and effective oral and written communication skills. * Ability to work as part of a team, as well as with families from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds. * Skill in supervision of professional, technical, and clerical personnel. * Ability to provide guidance and training to subordinates and students.
