PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The primary responsibility of the Principal – Project Structuring is to manage, coordinate, and report on the various project funding initiatives of the business. Working in coordination with Sales and other functional teams within the business and broader Corporate functions, along with an extensive network of third-party lenders and investors, the Principal – Project Structuring utilizes financial modeling expertise, experience in finance, tax, and accounting structuring, and external market research and networking to develop the optimal product offerings to meet our customer’s needs and maximize returns. The Principal also works in close coordination with Legal and external financiers to negotiate legal terms and conditions pertaining to financing and leads preparation of contract financial schedules and financing modifications. In addition, primary duties include identification and development of new potential sources of project financing, incentives, rebates, tax credits and deductions and any other source of funding to better position the company competitively through the development of value-driven financing solutions
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leads the development, evaluation, communication, and execution of funding solutions for the Energy Efficiency and Asset Operations business lines.
Actively monitors, manages, and optimizes existing portfolio of Federal Sale of Receivable financings and credit support.
Establishes and maintains key lender and investor relationships to maximize capital structure flexibility and achieve the lowest cost of capital for funding a project.
Prepares financing and contractual documentation in accordance with specific regulatory requirements and contractual requirements.
Leads internal deal approval efforts in concert with Constellation’s and Exelon’s approval processes and manages relationships with internal functional groups to secure timely input and sign off
Works directly with Senior Leadership to develop and execute the project funding strategy for the business.
Reports to the Director – Distributed Energy Business Operations & Structuring
Direct access and interaction with Vice President of Distributed Energy and other senior leaders.
Responsible for coordination of efforts with other teams within the business, in particular the Project Controls, Sales, Project Management, Performance Assurance, and Asset Operations teams.
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics plus 5 years or more of experience in energy project finance is required;
· In lieu of a Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of relevant and demonstrable experience;
· Strong commercial acumen and credibility and confidence to speak to a customer’s C-level decision-makers;
· Prior distributed energy asset and/or energy efficiency transactional experience;
· Familiarity with capital lease finance, tax-exempt municipal lease and bond finance, public housing finance, federal agency finance,and commercial and industrial finance as well as a working understanding of tax equity and project finance.
· Working familiarity with contracting vehicles and experience with legal review and negotiations;
· Willingness to travel is a component to this position (a valid driver’s license is necessary at all times)
Knowledge of engineering and construction practices in energy efficiency retrofit / renovation applications as well as renewable generation deployment
Advanced understanding of the financial aspects of the ESCO business model
Advanced understanding of distributed energy and energy efficiency market dynamics and trends
Demonstrably advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in PowerPoint and database architecture
Working familiarity with discounted cashflow (DCF) financial modeling and ability to identify project financial viability and risks
