Kennedy Krieger Institute PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST in Baltimore, Maryland

Overview

The Patient Services Specialist I performsroutinefront-end clinical operations activities, which include, but are not limited to: scheduling, registration, cashiering, gathering and providing appropriate information, collecting co-pays, and answering the phones. The Patient Services Specialist I interacts with patients, families, clinicians, administrative staff, and third-party payers in a courteous and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for complete and accurate patient registration/check-in.

  2. Responsible for scheduling multiple disciplines, including contacting families for availability and coordinating with clinicians.

  3. Responsible for monitoring work queues and reconciling as needed.

  4. Monitor and collaborate with clinicians and families regarding waitlists for center.

  5. Collect co-pays, provide receipts, and provide timely accounting for all collected cash and payments. Identify discrepancies and immediately works with the supervisor to resolve issues.

  6. Obtain necessary and required information for both clinical and financial documentation.

  7. Respond to patients, families, and center issues in a timely and professional manner, provide routine financial counseling, and seek assistance from the supervisor when obtaining answers to resolve patient issues.

  8. Maintain an updated general understanding of insurance requirements as they relate to the collection of accurate information at the Care Center.

  9. Retrieve and assess system information related to insurance authorization for patient services from the Patient Access.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must gain sufficient competence in Epic system within the first 60 days of employment. Must complete training as needed to maintain proficiency after Epic or department updates/changes.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. AA preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

1 - 2 years of experience in patient registration preferred.
