VMware Member of Technical Staff - Test Engineering - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Baltimore, Maryland

To deliver on this mission we are looking for a Quality-focused Member of Technical Staff to drive key projects within our Production Engineering group. Production Engineering sets the tone for product and operational Quality standards. This role will be both hands-on, working alongside other Engineers to extend our automated tests and frameworks, working with dev teams to support gathering critical metrics, and acting as a technical lead across multiple Quality initiatives.

As a member of the technical staff, you'll help build frameworks, tools, tests that help achieve exceptional quality. You will collaborate with cross-functional peers and mentor junior engineers.

What You’ll Do

  • Work as a member of the Production Engineering team to understand and close testing gaps.

  • Work with embedded test engineers and E2E teams to achieve automation goals.

  • Directly support the implementation of pipeline configs to report quality metrics across all levels of testing.

  • Develop automated tests using Python and pytest to increase test coverage.

  • Mentor junior engineers in automation practices and guide test development.

  • Investigate automation failures and collaborate with engineers on the best path forward, improve triage process and MTTR for automated tests.

  • Participate in root-cause analysis of customer issues to feedback into the test cycle.

  • Identify and remediate gaps in current automated tests, reducing technical debt.

  • Work across scrum teams to improve quality and visibility into shared projects.

  • Maximize test coverage by leveraging your experience to apply appropriate testing methods based on project status.

  • Participate in Engineering-wide planning to reduce cross-team dependencies and get visibility into why features are being developed.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years experience in test automation and framework development.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Python development.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in UI automation using Selenium or Cypress.

  • Technical leadership through hands-on experience across multiple Quality projects.

  • Experience developing automated test suites for execution within CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience gathering and investigating test metrics to drive improvements.

  • Solid understanding/experience of Cloud, multi-tenant and SaaS models.

  • Solid understanding/experience of containerization services such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to lead discussions.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and great attention to detail.

  • Growth mindset and willingness to mentor junior engineers.

  • Skills in Python, Cypress, pytest, Jenkins w/ Groovy, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, cloud monitoring tools, Java, Go, Gitlab/GitHub, CI/CD practices
