Purpose of Role

Responsible for understanding the intricacies of Customs rules for application of Harmonized Tariff Schedule numbers into upwards of 24 countries that products are imported into. Apply harmonized tariff schedule numbers to each style by destination to ensure the company is paying the correct import duty and to ensure Under Armour retains compliant importer status with governmental agencies. Consult with Customs and / or write for product classification assistance when necessary. Maintain accurate HTS within our classification database. Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on product classification and educate product development on how design principles impact applicable duty rates.

Your Impact

⦁ Access technical information in the Under Armour development system to analyze product attributes and apply the correct harmonized tariff numbers by destination country taking into consideration local regulations and laws to make the decision on the correct customs tariff code. Consult with regional Customs Broker, Customs, and/or write for product classification assistance when necessary. Record the correct HTS in the classification database in a timely manner.

⦁ Responsible for keeping knowledge up to date on Customs harmonized tariff schedule application guidelines. Understand what product features lead the decision-making process and apply this knowledge to new products added to our global product lines. Engage with industry experts and provide a point of view when guidelines may be controversial or not within the best interest of the company.

⦁ Be the subject matter expert on the use of the electronic classification system used to maintain the company’s global tariff database. Evaluate the system capabilities to unlock efficiencies that can save time and add automation to the current classification process. Complete any required system testing when new systems integrations or destination countries are added to the supply chain portfolio.

⦁ Maintain a working relationship and open lines of communication with Product / Materials Development on new products and duty implications while styles are in the design concept stage. Identify potential areas for duty reductions.

⦁ Build a professional relationship with our regional Customs Brokers and regional Trade Compliance teams. Provide product library database for final sign off within each international country we ship to. Answer questions that may come up in reference to product classification to ensure accurate and timely Customs release of arriving cargo.

⦁ Develop corporate education programs and training materials on product classification and duty rates.

Qualifications

⦁ Bachelor’s degree or relative work experience.

⦁ Experience with footwear, apparel, and accessories a plus.

⦁ Experience and confidence in working within applications such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.

⦁ Experience generating and/or analyzing data as it relates to project objectives.

⦁ Strong understanding of application of HTS and how to read the Customs Tariff.

⦁ Ability to effectively communicate upwards (executive level) and downward to functional and support teams. Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Listen and get clarification.

⦁ Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Gather and analyze information skillfully. Develop alternative solutions. Work well in group problem solving situations. Use reasoning even when dealing with emotional topics.

⦁ Strong ability to multi-task. Work well independently or with a group to complete work accurately and on time on a consistent basis.

⦁ Balance team and individual responsibilities. Give and welcome feedback. Contribute to building a positive team spirit.

Workplace Location

  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our Baltimore office.

  • Return to Work Designation: 3 days week in-office, the remainder of work week remote.

  • Travel: Limited travel may be required for training and development.

Base Compensation

$62,229.00 - $85,564.60 USD

Most new hires fall within this range and have the opportunity to earn more over time. Initial placement within the salary range, however, is based on an individual's relevant knowledge, skills and experience for the position.
