VMware Engineering Manager - VMware Cloud Solutions, - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Baltimore, Maryland

You will be responsible for managing a team working on multiple products, domains for VMware Cloud like SDDC Management, Availability, Elasticity, Autoscaler Analytics, VMC on AWS Outposts, Hyper Scalers and more such SaaS solutions and products.

This role is a perfect opportunity for a Software engineering manager looking for their next growth opportunity. As a leader on VMware Cloud Solutions, you will help us build and scale our team as our product grows and reaches new customers. Your role will allow you to collaborate closely with other engineering leaders to deliver cross-team, cross-product, and cross-organizational initiatives.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Within your first month:

  • Work with your manager to set your key milestones for your transition as a new leader on our team.

  • Get to know your team members, including understanding their current career goals and development plans

  • Work with your manager to set learning goals for your first few months on the team, including learning about Cloud Solutions, our customers, and our key internal tools and processes

  • Start to build relationships with your key stakeholders, including product managers, tech leads, and your peer engineering managers

  • Meet with your team, peers, and stakeholders to learn about our current challenges and areas we want to improve

Within your first three months:

  • Act as the engineering owner for at least one of the key initiatives your team is currently responsible for, managing the day to day work of your team

  • Collaborate with other key stakeholders to ensure the on-time software development, delivery of the key features

  • Lead your team through the elaboration and planning stage of a new incoming feature request

  • Translate high-level goals into individual and team goals

Within your first six months:

  • Work with your manager to put together your own career development plan

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to decide on future focus areas for your team, including both feature work and engineering-led improvements

  • Deep dive into one or more areas of our tools and processes to identify potential areas for improvement

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Lead your team's area, including managing the backlog and cross-team dependencies

  • Provide technical and architectural guidance where required for Micro-service architectures, SaaS software development.

  • Meet with your direct reports regularly to provide feedback and have continuous conversations about their career goals and growth opportunities

  • Collaborate with tech leads, product managers, engineers, and UX designers to elaborate and prepare for upcoming work

  • Translate higher-level goals into goals for your team, and provide guidance and coaching to help them meet their goals

  • Regularly review quality and engineering efficiency metrics, and create plans to address any concerns

  • Manage recruitment and onboarding of new hires

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Atleast 5-7 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, C++).

  • 2-3 years of experience in a leadership role (technical leadership or people management, supervision, or team leadership).
