Johns Hopkins University Clinical/Medical Biochemical Geneticist in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is recruiting a full-time, faculty tenure track Clinical or Medical Biochemical Geneticist to join our Clinical Genetics practice with 70-80% effort as an Attending Physician in the Genetics Clinic and 20-30% effort on research and teaching through clinical trials (or other sponsored research) and resident training.

The Clinical or Medical Biochemical Geneticist will perform clinical duties in the General Genetics Clinic and will serve as the primary physician for the care and coordination of abnormal newborn screening patients and others with inborn errors of metabolism.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold an academic appointment in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (rank and salary commensurate with experience).

  • Hold a medical appointment in the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

  • Have primary responsibilities as an Attending Physician in General Genetics Clinic and the Metabolic Genetics Clinic.

  • Take a minimum of 8 weeks of call time (at least 4 weeks metabolic plus 4 weeks combined dysmorphology and metabolic).

  • Manage active clinical trials and establish new clinical trials under the guidance of the Genetics Clinical Trials Unit Co-Directors. May also have other sponsored research to supplement overall research effort.

Our Clinical Genetics practice is located at the Johns Hopkins Hospital (East Baltimore/main campus) in Baltimore, MD. It comprises 13 faculty clinicians and over 20 staff including 8 genetic counselors. We have >4,500 annual visits across 6 clinics: General Genetics, Inborn Errors of Metabolism, Cardiovascular Connective Tissue Disease Clinic, Skeletal Dysplasia Clinic, Epigenetics and Chromatin Clinic and Inborn Errors of Immunity Clinic. Our clinicians also participate in multidisciplinary clinics across Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Johns Hopkins Hospital includes the 200-bed state of the art Charlotte Bloomberg Children's Center and the 700-bed adult hospital with a new critical care tower. Geneticists at JHU have the opportunity to care for children and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings and collaborate with basic and translational scientists in a vibrant, collegial and exciting environment that is home to an extraordinary research university.
