Loyola University Maryland Area Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

Position Details:

The Area Coordinator is a full-time, live-in professional staff member reporting directly to an Assistant Director of Student Life and responsible for direct supervision of student staff, including their training and development. The Area Coordinator will supervise a Senior Resident Assistant ( SRA ), Resident Assistants (RA), and Desk Attendants (DA). In addition, the Area Coordinator will oversee 300 – 600 residents across individual or multiple residence halls.

  1. Leadership, Development, and Support:

• Build a culture of personal responsibility within their residential community.

• Ensure a high level of care, student development and customer service. Establish rapport with residents through daily interactions and consistent presence and role modeling.

• Assist students with academic, social, spiritual, and personal needs

• Mediate conflicts and resolve issues as they arise.

• Act as a resource, by maintaining knowledge and referring students to campus resources.

• Participate in the selection, training, and mentorship of student staff for student success.

• Maintain knowledge of and educate students, of university policies and what it means to be a good neighbor.

• Investigate incident reports and take appropriate actions, which includes working with the Office of Student Conduct.

  1. Department Operations:

• Under the direction of the housing operations team, support housing operations processes, hall openings and closings, and report facilities/hall concerns.

• Actively respond to student emergency contact(s) / family calls and outreach.

• Provide budget management for staff development, team building, and the execution of educational hall programming.

• Actively participate in the after-hours on-call rotation.

• Complete accurate and timely administrative reports and paperwork.

• Support committee work.

  1. Supervise area staff including SRA , RAs, DAs through regularly scheduled staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, and additional/ongoing training for hall staff, as needed.

  2. Provide leadership during times of crisis and emergencies:

Area Coordinators are essential staff when the campus is experiencing a crisis or other emergency that may require an in-person response.

Weekly Schedule

This position promotes student success inside and outside of the classroom through consistent face time with students to get to know them and provide personal, social, academic, and professional support or referral. The Area Coordinator’s hours are designed to optimize visibility during the day in the halls:

37.5 – hour work week Monday through Friday. Most hours are within the standard 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. However, Area Coordinators are also asked to work periodic hours in the evening to ensure presence with residential students, varied availability, and support RA programming and campus events.
