GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

  • Responsible for the integration and monitoring of the trauma program for the Medical Center, including clinical and professional collaboration and integration of all phases of trauma care from resuscitation through rehabilitation.

  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure delivery of safe, effective, efficient, evidence-based patient care.

  • Monitor and assess clinical, system, and operational performance of the trauma service.

  • Provide professional and community education and research based on trauma data.

  • Represent the Medical Center in trauma system development, trauma prevention, and public awareness.

  • Responsible for the documentation of quality improvement data, coordinating focused reviews, implementing improvements, and monitoring outcomes.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

  • 5 years of work experience in Emergency, Trauma or Critical Care required.

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

  • Knowledge of EMS systems and previous work experience with EMS providers preferred.

  • Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

  • Work across the Medical Center to ensure the American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards are met. Monitor and track trauma patients throughout the continuum of care in conjunction with the Trauma PI Coordinator.

  • In coordination with other clinical professionals, assist with planning and implementing clinical protocols/practice management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients, and serve as a resource for clinical practice.

  • Monitor clinical outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care delivery, develop quality filters, audits, and case reviews, identify trends and sentinel events, and assist with outcome assessment and action plans while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Supervise Trauma Registry staff in the collection, coding, scoring, and reporting of registry data to facilitate performance improvement activities.

  • Maintain oversight of a tracking platform for all trauma system issues and provide additional trauma program reports, queries, and data for research projects as requested.

  • Support intra-facility, inter-facility and regional professional staff development and education activities.

  • Oversee selection, planning, and preparation of case reviews, tracking of outcomes, and facilitation of loop closure.

  • Support and participate in injury prevention and outreach programs in conjunction with the Injury Prevention, Outreach, and Education Coordinator.

  • Participate in development of trauma care systems at community, state, and national level and represents hospital on committees as appropriate.

  • Liaison for EMS agencies as appropriate.

  • Serves as an internal resource for staff in all hospital departments, and act as an extended liaison for emergency medical service agencies.
