General Description:

TVC is a mid-size State agency looking for someone who has the work ethic and drive to be part of our team. The Travel Accountant is responsible for tracking, auditing and processing all agency travel submissions. The role will further support the department by providing a high level of customer service for staff regarding travel matters while maintaining travel policy and conducting agency training as needed. The right candidate will have the opportunity to learn other A/P departmental tasks as they develop. Our philosophy is to have employees interact with as many areas as possible to prepare them for future roles. TVC utilizes the Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) for financial and payroll transactions so it will be possible necessary to learn TVC systems quickly. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a proven ability to learn and research issues independently, have good problem-solving skills and demonstrate strong analytical and system skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Audits and processes travel documents, vouchers, and enters data into CAPPS.
  • Works closely with A/P Lead and acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all travel related matters.
  • Maintains an agency travel log in Excel format.
  • Maintains agency training log as it relates to agency CAPPS chart fields (Excel).
  • Process monthly Citibank and weekly Enterprise Rent A Car reconciliations and statements.
  • Responsible for assisting agency staff with travel-related inquiries and suggesting solutions.
  • Responsible for providing agency travel training in Power Point (PPT) as needed
  • Act as an administrator for agency travel cards via website or direct contact.
  • Uses USAS/SIRS/CAPPS to search, analyze, run reports and make correcting entries.
  • Attends CAPPS User Group meetings. Contributes to development of business processes.
  • Maintains and consistently develops policy and procedure in areas of focus.
  • Serves as an accounting generalist and backup to any accounting functions as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Graduation from a standard senior high school supplemented by college coursework in accounting is generally preferred. To substitute experience for education the candidate must show they have held progressively responsible positions. Substitution is on a year for year basis.

Minimum Experience:

· Accountant II - One year of travel accounting or bookkeeping principles experience in an office setting.

· Accountant III - Two years of travel accounting or bookkeeping principles experience in an office setting.

Additional Requirements:

· A valid Texas Driver’s License must be provided within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Associate’s degree or college coursework in accounting is preferred.**

· Travel accounting experience with a State Agency is preferred.

· Experience using the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).

· CAPPS/PeopleSoft Financials experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Products, specifically Excel to create spreadsheets. Spreadsheets should display and analyze financial information.
  • Ability to work accurately with numerical details.
  • Ability to analyze, consolidate and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, co-workers, and agency staff.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a dependable and organized manner to meet various deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn multiple system requirements and troubleshoot solutions to issues.

*Environmental & Physical Conditions: * Normal office work environment, mostly sedentary in nature. May involve walking; standing; remaining stationary for long periods of time; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Work involves extensive telephone usage and repetitive hand/wrist/finger motions while using the computer.
