Actuary IV (PBR Actuary)and#8239; This position performs advanced and/or managerial (senior-level) actuarial work to support the strategic objectives. Work involves performing actuarial analysis and examination of reserves and other actuarial matters. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.and#8239;and#8239; This position:and#8239; Perform actuarial analysis, including drafting summary reports, of principles-based reserves, asset adequacy analysis, and other Valuation Manual requirements during targeted examinations of life and health companies.and#8239; Perform monitoring and document material developments for principles-based reserves, asset adequacy analysis, and other Valuation Manual requirements between targeted examinations of life and health companies.and#8239; Perform actuarial analysis of specific transactions and agreements as needed to determine actuarial appropriateness, compliance with requirements, and appropriate financial statement presentation.and#8239; Review workpapers and reports prepared by others.and#8239; Participate in special projects as assigned such as assisting with development or revision of rules, legislation, actuarial guidelines, and Valuation Manual requirements.and#8239; Participate in comprehensive financial examinations of life health companies and other related entities and prepare summaries to support examination reports and workpapers.and#8239; Provide feedback, support, and technical assistance to others as applicable.and#8239; Complete relevant continuing education, including meeting the minimum requirement to maintain actuarial credentials. Perform other duties as assigned.and#8239; Qualifications: This position requires: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably with a major in statistics, mathematics or actuarial science, insurance, or related field. A minimum of four (4) years of relevant actuarial work experience. Associate or Fellow with the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries in good standing including maintaining required continuing education credits. Must be eligible for the bond-related provisions of Insurance Code Section 401.106 and take the oath required by Insurance Code Section 401.105. Resume required with submission of application. Additional job details: This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule if located in Austin or fully remote if located within Texas outside the Austin area. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be a ailable for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of: State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements. Actuarial formulas, methods, procedures, professional guidance (ASOPs, Practice Notes, etc).and#8239; Relevant industry studies and data sources.and#8239; Regulatory requirements for life and health insurance. Accounting and auditing principles.and#8239; This position requires demonstrated skill in: Problem solving and critical thinking. Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job. Operating a motor vehicle in a safe and courteous manner in compliance with traffic laws. Interpreting insurance laws, regulations, requirements, and actuarial guidelines.and#8239; Effectively applying actuarial principles, techniques, and insights.and#8239; Developing, maintaining, and applying actuarial methods and formulas.and#8239;and#8239; Conceptualizing particular actuarial and statistical methodologies.and#8239;and#8239; Applying critical thinking to analyze problems and form insightful conclusions.and#8239; Communicating complex subjects in a clear and concise manner.and#8239; Preparing documentation that is clear, concise, accurately describes work performed, and supports conclusions. Using personal computers, including Microsoft applications (e.g., Word and Excel) and TeamMate. This position requires the demonstrated ability to: Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
