Position Overview: In order to advance the mission of the TEA of improving outcomes for all public-school students, the System of Great Schools District Support Specialist supports school districts in the design and implementation of the System of Great Schools (SGS) strategy. The SGS strategy is a district-wide problem-solving approach designed to ensure families have the schools they want and need in their communities and that every child has access to a high-quality, best fit school. The SGS District Support Specialist supports central office leaders to implement the SGS strategy in collaboration with TEA colleagues, SGS Executive Advisor Firms, School Action Fund Technical Assistance Providers, and other support providers. This includes providing direct support to a caseload of districts, collecting and evaluating artifacts and data to inform program improvements, developing and delivering professional learning and networking opportunities, and creating tools and resources to support district implementation. The SGS District Support Specialist is part of the Division of System Support within the Office of Educator Support and reports directly to the System of Great Schools Manager. You may perform other functions as assigned. 1. District support and customer service: Support a network of district leaders to implement the System of Great Schools theory of action in collaboration with the SGS team, executive advisors, and TEA colleagues. This includes managing a professional network of education leaders, providing individualized support to district leaders, and developing SGS professional learning, resources, and networking opportunities to support district implementation.2. Define best practices: Collaborate with the SGS team, System Support leadership, and executive advisors to define and communicate criteria for high-quality implementation of system-level portfolio management strategies. This includes regularly gathering feedback from the SGS Network, evaluating data and artifacts, breaking down complex information, engaging in reflection and continuous improvement processes, and developing and communicating best practices based on findings.3. Project management and organization: Documented experience as a project manager, including building and maintaining systems to set goals and milestones, executing projects with multiple stakeholders, mo itoring progress and course correcting as needed, and achieving results. This includes maintaining and improving tracking systems related to district SGS implementation and vendor management and regularly reporting progress.4. Vendor management: Manages TEA vendors, including SGS executive advisor firms, to ensure all SGS Network districts are provided high-quality coaching and advising. This includes coaching and collaborating through influence to support district implementation. It also includes developing onboarding materials, delivering professional development, conducting regular evaluations, and managing contracts, projects, and invoices.5. Collaborate and coordinate with related teams: Works with external partners and internal agency teams including School Action Fund, Texas Strategic Leadership, Texas Partnerships, and regional Education Service Centers to support SGS Network Districts. This includes engaging in a collaborative, results-oriented team environment and working with partners to identify connections across programs in order to develop aligned district supports. This also includes leading communication with internal and external parties and exercising sound judgement in making decisions. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university Experience: At least four (4) years of experience in the education sector, including at least one (1) year in a role with project management responsibilities. Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience. Other Qualifications Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military Strong facilitation and presentation skills in both small group and large group settings Ability to create and deliver high-quality professional learning experiences for adult learners, and manage vendors around content creation Ability to break complex information or problems into component parts, ask questions, synthesize, and develop and execute plans and communications to address identified issues Ability to effectively organize and complete multiple projects at different stages of development while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality and consistency across all work Ability to lead by influence to achieve investment and results from districts, vendors, and staff not directly supervised by this position Demonstrate outstanding leadership and personal relations skills, including excellent written and oral communication, facilitation, and presentation skills Preferred: Broad knowledge of Texas education, including knowledge of state (e.g., SB 1882) and federal laws (e.g., Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) related to state agency actions in support of school districts and schools As an equal opportunity employer, we hire without consideration to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age or veteran status, unless an applicant is entitled to the military employment preference.
