AWS is looking for a Sr. Controls Engineer to become part of a mechanical solutions engineer team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation within our rapidly expanding data center foot print. This position can be based out of Seattle, Columbus, Austin or Virginia.

Our Senior Engineers on the team, they take full ownership to design resilient, cost effective mechanical systems. As engineers at Amazon we are responsible for achieving a world class uptime for our customers. We drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs, and communicate technical direction to Sr. Management. We seek new ways to enhance the reliability, scalability, and cost effectiveness of our engineering designs. As an engineer at Amazon you have the ability to drive change, define and design the systems that our customers rely on.

Key Functional Dimensions:

• Advises peer engineers and management team.

• Deep-dive and perform root cause analysis.

• Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.

• Simplify and standardize cooling control architecture.

As a Controls engineer at Amazon you will work with engineers, system developers, and local data center operations teams to implement advance control strategies in AWS data centers globally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement advance controls strategies.

• Review controls sequence of operation and provide feedback to design.

• Develop and modify controls logic programming and GUI for new mechanical products while ensuring controls are deployed in accordance with AWS standards, specifications and scope of work (SOW).

• Provide controls SME support and perform controls root cause analysis.

• Review and provide feedback on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design drawings and basis of design (BOD)

• Develop project bill of material (BOM) and scope of work (SOW)

• Support and perform inspections, testing, and commissioning of controls systems

• Participate and support Factory Acceptance/Witness Testing activities (FAT/FWT)

• Provide technical assistance and support to internal customers during life cycle of the data center

• Learn and help design teams develop sequence of operation for mechanical systems

• Grow in technical ability by learning a multitude of different automation platforms

• Learn and develop controls drawings and wiring diagrams

• Size controls valves and damper actuators and select controls devices.

• Work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.

• Travel domestically and internationally to support global AWS projects

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related engineering discipline. Will also accept equivalent domain specific experience in lieu of a degree.

• 7+ years of experience in the design programming, and/or startup/commissioning systems and controls systems for industrial applications.

• Experience with controls in data centers or other critical facilities

• Experience programming control logic systems in any of the following systems (or similar): Siemens, Tridium, Distech, Struxureware, or Alerton.

• Expert in common controls communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• MS in Controls Engineering

• Experience with large scale/industrial control systems (design, development and deployment) utilizing DDC/PLC.

• Experience with developing SCADA based control systems.

• Prior experience designing and deploying control systems for buildings or data centers.

• Understanding of EPMS and BMS systems.

• Experience in designing, configuring, programming, installing, or servicing two or more of the following products: Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Rockwell Automation, Ignition, Tridium Niagara, Eaton, ABB, Johnson Controls, APC, or other

• Ability to work independently and also as part of a diverse team of product and program managers, mechanical and electrical engineers.

• Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, requirements, and navigate difficult situations.

• Ability to communicate to vendors and make decisions using industry standard knowledge (controls theory, protocols, mechanical and electrical systems).

• Demonstrated experience expanding controls knowledge base – new systems, technology, machine learning, etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
