Amazon Senior Systems Development Engineer, Managed Edge Compute in Austin, Texas

Description

The Amazon Managed Edge Compute (MEC) team is working on building a highly scalable unified management solution to manage, and report on Amazon's global fleet of compute devices across Amazon's fulfillment centers. Hundreds of thousands of Amazon Associates rely upon these devices to deliver shipments to Amazon retail customers. We provide our critical services in thousands of facilities ranging from Amazon's smallest last-mile emerging market delivery stations to 1M+ square foot robotic facilities.

We are looking for a talented System Development Engineer to invent new solutions to improve our speed, scale, and efficiency. You will be joining a team that is developing a unified management solution that will be deployed across the entire fleet of compute units, testing frameworks, and improving reporting to enable complex data-driven decisions with globally impacting scope. Our AWS-based services enable Amazon's software, systems, and operations teams to use the latest technologies in our facilities. We build for performance, availability, security, and cost.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop applications, services and automation for Linux systems

  • Implement new features and enhance existing products

  • Architect scalable and maintainable software solutions

  • Mentor junior developers and share expertise

  • Troubleshoot issues and help resolve customer problems

  • Stay up to date on relevant technologies and best practices

Requirements:

  • Experience with Linux system fundamentals.

  • Proficiency in at least one high level language like Python

  • Experience developing for both x86 and ARM-based platforms

  • Experience with software development processes and methodologies

  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and collaboratively

  • Passion for continuous learning and developing quality code

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with build systems like Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, etc.

  • Experience developing applications on AWS platforms

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

  • 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

  • 2+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

  • Experience in mentoring, leading, or managing more junior engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers
