Job Summary of the Transport Supervisor

Transport supervisor is responsible for the education and training of all transporters; coordination of daily workflow as well as conducting staff meeting and in-services as appropriate. Communication between departments as well as nurses is key for a well-run department. Supervisor is responsible for oversight of how the day to day operations run including but not limited to re-prioritizing jobs in TeleTracker, training/adding all users on the transport portion of TeleTracker in addition to trouble-shooting system issues. Supervisor will coordinate staff in transporting patients to and from areas via wheelchair, stretcher or ambulating. Responsibilities include transporting items with patient or separately such as oxygen or IV stands. Other duties include, but are not limited to, clerical, scheduling, ordering supplies, inventory, cleaning, Kronos and all other duties deemed necessary by the Throughput Manager. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift

  • Provide direct assistance to the bedside staff when needed.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Ensure equipment (stretcher) is properly functioning and demonstrate protocol to handle malfunctions.

  • Follow hospital and department policy for Standard Precautions or category of isolation appropriate to patient.

  • Report to work consistently and on-time, adhering to all SDMC attendance policies (see summary document).

  • Conduct staff meetings on a monthly basis with transport team members

  • Function with minimal supervision, consider alternatives and identify possible solutions prior to seeking assistance, except when safety issues are involved.

  • Accept change, direction and constructive feedback in an open and positive manner, and demonstrate the ability to change/improve.

  • Adjust to variations in volume in an efficient manner.

  • Maintain supportive and cooperative demeanor.

Qualifications of the Transport Supervisor

Experience

  • 1-3 years of transport or direct patient care experience is preferred

Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) per St. David’s Healthcare policy
