Job/Position DescriptionUnder moderate supervision of the Serological Analysis Group Manager and with coordination with the Serological Analysis Team Lead, performs routine diagnostic testing including moderately complex and complex serological tests. Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), performs testing in a manner which assures stringent quality assurance, accuracy, and efficiency. Assists in monitoring and maintaining quality assurance and workflow, and in the training of DSHS employees. Duties are performed with limited latitude for the use of scientific knowledge, initiative, and independent judgment.Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular basis and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.EJF1. Under the technical guidance of the Serological Analysis Team Lead, performs moderately complex and some complex immunological and serological tests for the detection of antibodies to or antigens against infectious microorganisms by processing specimens in accordance with current written protocols and within the specified turnaround time. Notifies Team Leader/Group Manager of non-routine assay results. Recognizes problems or deviation with the assay procedures and presents them to the Team Leader/Group Manager. Based on the work area, consistently complies with DSHS Laboratory, local, state and federal guidelines to ensure a safe functioning laboratory. (45%)EJF 2. Assists with prioritizing and completing the workload in the assigned work area by participating in solutions to workload problems. Ensures that the lab's unique supplies are available when needed and without delays by assisting with the maintenance of the laboratory's inventory and by notifying senior co-workers when reagents or consumables need to be ordered. Assists in cross-training program by teaching or demonstration of test techniques to other laboratory personnel, volunteers, or students. Documents training according to policies and procedures. Follows safety rules and guidelines and assists with safety training. Participates in the weekend and holiday rotations as needed. (20%)EFJ 3: Assists with quality control and quality assurance procedures and policies. Follows required quality control testing procedures. Participates in quality assurance through problem solving and completing corrective actions. Evaluates reagents used in or prepared by the Serological Analysis laboratory by performing required quality control testing prior to use. Prepares and standardizes the quality of reagents used in tests by tracking expiration dates of reagents, establishing working dilutions, and documenting performance of reagents prior to use. Notifies the team lead and documents troubleshooting records when abnormal quality control results arise. Maintains accurate and detailed QC and test records. Assists with the inventory of the Lab's supplies and serum files, by testing and allocation of supplies, reagents, and controls so they are available as needed, organizing reagents and controls, and archiving specimens accurately in serum file boxes. (15%)EFJ 4. Assists in performance of testing as part of validation/verification of new testing procedures at the request of Team Leader / Group Manager. Assists in evaluating new reagents/kits with appropriate serum panels as required by CAP/CLIA and participates in studies using current protocols and presents findings to senior team members/Team Leader/Group Manager for implementation.
