This Opportunity

WSP is growing and we have an exciting career opportunity for a Lead Water Resources Engineer with at least 10 years of relevant experience to support our Environmental Business Line in Texas or Baton Rouge, LA; preferred locations Houston, Austin or Dallas. Your Impact

  • Successful delivery of reliable and sustainable water sourcing solutions to industrial and energy clients for proposed and existing operations in a challenging environment and changing regulatory landscape.

  • Deliver Major Water Utility Master Planning in the following areas:

  • Infrastructure Design

  • Regional water planning agency interface

  • Land use planning inputs

  • Population projection inputs

  • Utility extension practices

  • Evaluation of water quality needs for proposed operations

  • 30 year forward infrastructure planning

  • New connections negotiating practices for dollar or facilities contributions

  • Connection and user fee practices

  • Engineering economics

  • Both surface and groundwater sourcing experience

  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement criteria for ranking various water sourcing solutions.

  • Lead water sourcing engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors as needed and employees.

  • Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss information relating to a water sourcing alternatives, regulatory requirements and community perceptions and impacts.

  • Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations to identify and provide a qualitative and quantitative analyses for various sources of water to support industrial operations.

  • Develop a client base for providing high level water sourcing engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities.

  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.

  • Remain current in latest water sourcing technical, regulatory and political implications for TX and LA.

  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.

  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.

  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).

  • Infrastructure design experience that includes planning, design, construction and operation

  • Knowledgeable of various regulatory programs impacting water resources and sourcing efforts in TX and LA.

  • Highly proficient with water resources/sourcing engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues.

  • Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.

  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and economical and regulatory analyses in order to assist clients in reaching the most effective, economical, and logical solution for their water sourcing needs.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Member of Professional Associations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Works Association or the Water Environment Federation

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
