Computational Plasma Physics Development Engineer

We are currently looking for an expert in low-temperature plasma to support the development of Applied Materials ACE+ commercial multi-physics software. This expert will be a member of the Computational Products and Solutions group and will play a leading role in the development, extension, and maintenance of ACE+ plasma module. The module is continuously expanded and improved for modeling of non-equilibrium low temperature plasmas, especially for virtual reactor simulations and process design.

Essential Functions / Job Description

Develop and implement new models, sub-models, multi-physics couplings, and capabilities in the plasma physics software module. This function will require involvement in all phases of the development lifecycle, including technical requirements definition, planning, algorithm and software design, software implementation, testing, support, quality assurance, extension, maintenance, and documentation.

Extend, improve, re-factor, and re-implement existing models, sub-models, and capabilities in the plasma physics module.

Advise, guide, and collaborate with other plasma scientists and Applications Engineers working on projects and applications involving plasma physics simulations.

Guide and mentor more junior development engineers in the ACE+ Solver group in their related implementation and development work.

Guide and participate in the long-term development roadmap and decisions relating to all aspects of the plasma physics module and related modules, including decisions relating to the selection and pursuit of promising future technologies, models, application areas, and markets.

Occasionally participate in the preparation of proposals, reports, publications, or presentations involving research and development or project work.

Occasionally provide insight, guidance, or advice to sales and marketing activities relating to the plasma physics module.

Education and Skills / Requirements

A PhD degree in plasma physics or engineering or a related discipline with five or more years of directly relevant experience in the development, implementation, and use of computational models.

Demonstrable theoretical and practical expertise and experience in low-temperature plasma physics and its use in materials processing applications, especially for semiconductor manufacturing.

Extensive expertise in the discretization techniques, numerical methods, coupling methods, and solution algorithms used with plasma physics, especially techniques based on the Finite-Volume and Finite Element method for unstructured grids.

Demonstrated track record of delivering features in commercial quality Multiphysics software

Expertise in the architecture, design, and implementation of software for computational modeling or computational physics solvers, including direct implementation experience with Fortran 90/95, C, or C++. This expertise should include familiarity with the practices of rigorous software development and a sound understanding of the entire software lifecycle, all the way from gathering of requirements, to implementation, to verification and testing, to documentation, to maintenance and support.

Knowledge of parallel and multi-threaded code implementation and processing for scientific computing.

Experience in Agile software development methodology is a plus

Originality and creativity in thinking and problem solving.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the ACE+ team, with other talented and capable peers developing various modules of our flagship multi-physics software. Location

The position is in Applied Materials offices in Austin Texas or other Applied offices in the US.

U.S. Salary Range:

$132,000.00 - $181,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
