General descriptionThe mission of the Tax Policy Division is to provide accurate, consistent and timely tax information to taxpayers, state officials, Texas citizens and agency personnel. The Correspondence Team supports the divisions mission byproviding tax-related guidance for internal and external CPA customers, other agencies and public offices; assisting Enforcement with tax guidance during taxpayer seminars; and handling special projects. An ideal candidate is a positive individual with a passion for customer service and the ability to apply their skills and knowledge to produce helpful responses. This candidate should also possess the ability to analyze questions and articulate written responses in an accurate, simple and concise manner. This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time based on business needs. The salary and the level of the position offered (i.e., Program Specialist IV or V) will be based on the quality of the candidates experience and education. Program Specialist IV: $5416.00 5916.00 Program Specialist V: $5833.00 6416.00 Please Note: Selected Candidates will not receive an increase greater than $900.00 per month. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is required. Program Specialist IV: Experience: Three (3) years of experience responding to oral or written requests; which require the candidate to research, analyze and interpret the question and provide an oral or written response related to complex state tax statutes. Preferred Experience: Experience in sales and franchise tax, fees and assessments, forms, processes and policies is preferred. Program Specialist V: Experience: Four (4) years of experience responding to oral or written requests; which require the candidate to research, analyze and interpret the question and provide an oral or written response related to complex state tax statutes. Preferred Experience: Experience in sales, franchise, motor vehicle, motor fuels and hotel occupancy taxes, fees and assessments, forms, processes and policies is preferred. Substitution of Experience for Education at both levels: Each additional year of experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. Substitution of Education for Experience at the Program Specialist IV level only: A masters degree or higher may be substituted up to two years of experience. Once hired, we will provide the tools for you to be proficient with: Interpreting tax statutes, rules, and policies regarding ales and franchise taxes including assessments and fees, Providing assistance to internal and external customers, Researching and analyzing taxpayer questions, Consulting with other agency personnel, Drafting written responses, Responding to phone calls, and Completing special projects Veterans: To receive veteran's preference, a copy of your DD214 (Member 4) is required. Surviving Spouses or Orphans must provide DD 1300 or DD 214. Required documents must be attached to the application when it is submitted in order to receive veterans preference.
