Job/Position DescriptionThe Switchboard Operator performs operations at the switchboard/reception area with the use of multi-line console telecommunication equipment; Greets and assists visitors by providing information and giving directions to locations on campus and notifying campus employees of visitors; Maintains a Visitors Center for family members and friends of campus individuals. Capable of handling a high volume of calls on a multi-line phone system by answering, placing and transferring campus, local and long-distance calls. Communicates with campus personnel including emergency medical, transportation and security by radio and pager systems; Acts as command center for communicating and relaying emergency information as required. Monitors and responds to monitored alarms. Exhibits a thorough knowledge of campus emergency procedures and has the ability to respond effectively to crisis situations. Is familiar with various campus and departmental procedures and is able to interpret and perform them in a timely and accurate manner. Performs clerical and mail room duties as assigned. Essential Job FunctionsAttends Work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.This position works a rotating schedule (evenings and nights), including Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. This position is located at the Austin State Supported Living Center. Shifts will be for 10 hours in duration.Must be capable of handling a high volume of calls on a multi-line phone system by answering, placing and transferring campus, local and long-distance calls. Communicates with campus personnel including, campus administrators, shift coordinators, campus nurse, medical staff, campus OD's, security/monitors, EDO's, AOD, and personnel on-call by two -way radio and/or pager systems. Acts as command center for communicating and relaying emergency information as required. Monitors and responds to Fire Alarm panel and other monitored alarms.Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
