Fundraising/Prospecting/Stewardship: Work closely with Black Studies Leaders and Executive Director of Development to develop plan, implement, and evaluate a program of strategic engagements with donors and other key stakeholders to grow the base of support and increase annual giving. Actively participate in meeting or exceeding annual individual fundraising goals. Develop and manage a portfolio of around 50 prospective major gift prospects. Emphasis on portfolio and program building is to be expected in the first 12 24 months. Conduct in-person visits with prospects and donors. Plan and execute a target total of 100 visits per year and a commensurate number of solicitations. Coordinate on-campus visits and meetings and arrange for prospects and donors to meet with appropriate faculty and staff to advance relationships and gift conversations. Identify, and formally qualify, new major and leadership giving-level prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects, producing a continuous stream of donors capable of making gifts of $20,000 or more with a focus on unrestricted gifts and pledges toward undergrad, graduate, and faculty programs. Within 18 months of start date, consistently produce at least $100,000 in annual philanthropic support. Maintain current strategies, contact reports and records in VIP (the University's Donor Relationship Management System) and associated databases.Stewardship: Create, engage and steward patron groups (Advisory Committees) as well as assigned individual prospects and in-kind sponsorships to increase annual giving. Create a plan for engagement after each event and follow up with attendees in a timely fashion.Communications: Draft compelling letters, proposals and other correspondence directed toward alumni and donors as appropriate. Participate in proposal preparation, strategy development, and stewardship as required for donors in the portfolio and in consultation with Black Studies Leaders and Executive Director of Development. Deliver timely and effective follow-up to prospects and donors. Create customized impact reporting and communications for targeted donors through various print and digital means. Serve as primary contact with donors for various stewardship activities, as well as gift usage questions. Participate in Black Studies Collective Outreach collaborative team. Work closely with Black Studies Communications staff on newsletters, annual reports, swag, related documents. Maintain strong communication links with various university colleagues to ensure a coordinated approach to prospects and donors. Grow the annual giving donor pipeline through phone calls, personal visits, solicitations, stewardship.Development Events: As the sole development staff, lead the coordination and organization of fund- and friend-raising events, including advisory council, exhibition committee, and subcommittee meetings, galas, cocktail parties, receptions, symposia and conferences, tours, and other special projects as assigned by the chair and other unit leaders. Provide event support for Black Studies Collective events, including those where an all hands on deck approach is required. Attend and participate as needed in Black Studies Collective events, unit meetings, and Black Studies Collective staff meetings. Attend evening and weekend functions as necessary.Budgeting: Assist in preparation and management of expenses. Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with university policy and provide timely reporting. Coordinate with Financial Analyst/Manager to ensure timely reimbursement and payment of expenses.Research: Become a knowledgeable advocate of the Black Studies Collective and its various units and initiatives which includes attending BSC events regularly and a few classes per semester to learn about faculty and students among other activities.
